Hey all,
So my girlfriend and I are going on our third Valentines Day and we are looking for a nice restaurant in the city. We would like to spend no more than $75 per person (that would include appetizer, entree, dessert and drink).
Does anyone have any suggestions for places we should look at?
Thanks guys!
I had seen a place where dinner for two was $75. Can't remember if it was Gallagher's or Angus McIndoe. Let me figure it out.
ETA: It's Angus and it's $79 for porterhouse for two with sides and wine.

So, my girlfriend and I have a list going.
Has anyone gone to any of the following: Artisanal, 212 Restaurant & Vodka Bar, 5Ninth, Nocello, DuMont, Vintage Irving and Freemans?
Feel free to post other ideas.
If you like Bobby Flay, his Bar Americain on 52nd Street is terrific, but it's also probably at the very limit of your budget.
Also, I recently went to a place in Chelsea called Il Bastardo (really). It was very good, and well under your budget. I think it was on 7th Avenue, near 22nd Street.
And you really can't go wrong with Angus McIndoe.
You can if you don't eat meat.
Double post.
That's a good point, Yero. Are there any dietary needs that we should be aware of? My mother is lactose intolerant and I had intended on getting her a gift certificate to Sardi's or 21 Club. But their menus are limited and everything seems to have sauces on it. So that's why I choose Angus. The menu seemed safe enough for her.
The only meat I eat is poultry, but I am more than happy with vegetarian options.
The girl loves seafood, doesn't do pork.
Thanks guys.
Angus may still be your best bet then.
Here are a few items from the menu:
Roasted Organic Free-Range Chicken
Crispy batter-fried fish and chips
Sauteed miso glazed salmon
Grilled Chicken Salad
Are you planning on just doing dinner? Angus is on 44th Street and by going to Angus instead of a place that charges you a mint for only a little food you might be able to see a show as well.
Artisanal is one of my favorite restaurants, and it's a cheese lover's paradise. A non-meat eater can do very well there.
But it's VERY noisy.
Eris- We usually see shows at least once a week (both work in the business) so this would be a nice long romantic dinner.
Right now Artisanal and Perbacco are at the top of our list Any of you ever go to the latter?
I like Artisanal and have been there many times. It is all about the cheese. They have a cheese cave and a cheese shop and even a special server called a Fromagier who can tell you all about their fancy cheeses.
Specialty dishes included cheese gougeres (little cheese cream puffs), cheese fondue, macaroni and cheese, and for dessert cheese plates. They also have excellent French Onion Soup. Their steak frites are pretty good too. Their poultry and veggie options (if you don't dairy) are not as good as the cheese options in my opinion. They do have a chicken under a brick entree, but have never tried it.
Your pricepoint may work (although it might be tight) for Scarpetta, Scott Conant's place on the brim of the meatpacking district.
For straightforward, neighborhood Italian you could check out Crispo, but ask to sit in the Garden Room as it is much nicer and more romantic than the main room which is noisy and cramped beyond belief.

We have decided on Artisanal. Thank you for all of your help.
