I won a scholarship for the BA in Theater Arts - Performance Major and wanted to meet some peeps! I am a transfer.. in my early 20s and need new friends :)
I also had a question! They told me I am eligible to switch into the BFA based on my audition... which do you suggest I do? Stick with the BA (which sort of meets my needs right now) or stay longer and get the BFA?? I need to let them know by Jan. 15th... I am starting school Jan 28th finishing up some core classes.. since we cant start in the theater dept. till september.
Ok Merry Christmas!!
I'm applying, as a transfer, into the theater department for Fall '08. I haven't heard back from the school yet but I have my audition Feb. 2nd and I'm hoping to get into either the BA or BFA!
when you do, if you have any questions about the auditions, i'd be glad to answer them! They are SO much fun. It didn't feel like an audition.
I too am auditioning as a transfer. January 19th :) I hear the auditions are class auditions...is this true? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I have an audition for Marymount Manhattan on March 3rd, so I hope to see some of you all there next year if I do get in.

yes, all your auditions are infront of one professor, one student aid and about 20-25 potential students. depending on which professor auditions you, you may have to do a group warm-up but nothing that puts you on the spot. they will cut you off at the minute mark for your monologue (either 1 or 2 min, i forget).
I went on November 17th to the musical theater/acting audition and had 2 professors (melissa hart being one of them) and 2 student aids who time you / take you to the bathroom if you have to go. They did A-J and K-Z split into groups and A-Z danced first which was SO easy and so fun.. Then we got changed, bathroom and Melissa led us in a vocal warm up. Then she went in alphabetical order to do Your songs or song first and then the monologue as soon as you were done singing. You get to sing 16-32 bars of a song and they stop you at 2 minutes after your monologue. A lot of people didn't get to finish. Some people they made acting adjustments with. It was a very supportive and fun class setting.
What was the difficulty of the dance audition? Also is the time limit two minutes combined with the song/monologue or do they start officially timing you once you begin your monologue because the time it takes you to do your song could vary depending on if it's uptempo or a ballad.
We had to do 2 boxes steps, 1 chasse and 1 pivet lol that was it I SWEAR. To the song "i got rhythm"... They start timing you once you say the first word of your monologue.
Haha, that's good to know. I nearly died after the Boston Conservatory dance audition. I'm not a dancer at all. I took an intro to dance course in college which covered ballet, modern and jazz and I also took an intro to tap course. Fortunately I can memorize choreography rather quickly (doesn't mean I do it very well however) but I can pick it and fake it decently.
Thanks for answering all these questions, it's nice to have someone who's been through it.

you won't not get into the program from the dance... its simply to see your level of ability. But it seems the dance hasn't changed, mine was identical years ago... it lasted like 45 seconds! And melissa hart was my vocal coach while at MMC... SHE IS AMAZING and has a TONY nomination which doesn't hurt!
