I love that the other Tracy Turnblad is Marcie on One Life to Live and Vicki is going to spend Thanksgiving with the Harvey's boyfriend from the Torch Song Trilogy movie.
It all goes full circle.

I wanted to, Taz. But I'm a lady.
Why aren't half the people on this thread even talking opera?
Have you ever tried herding cats?

Gilbert and Sullivan were writing Pastiche comedies, parodies of other opera styles.
Lehar was writing "serious" operetta and by serious I mean original melodic and harmonic pieces that werent indicative of anything but the viennesse style of operetta.
The Merry Widow is famous, but not in the same way. One of the problems is that the story is blander than most G&S operattas, at least in my opinion, but the music is glorious and the comedy is top notch (have you read the Comden and Green translation? It's the best, but the Sheldon Harnick one is good too)

Please let's not resort to name calling, PalJoey. I never wanted to stir up an argument. Never. I should have never showed that thread to japf. That I'll admit was my fault. Throughout these conversations I have been stressing the urge to agree to disagree like civilized adults. I even started a thread on the main boards saying something along the lines of "Everyone needs to relax. Get high. Or something".
I'm not trying to stir up controversy. I learned from my last thread that I have to keep my mouth shut when it comes to politics. If that's what you want me to do, I'll do it. In exchange, will you stop calling me a sock puppet?

Totally forgot to mention Benjamin Britten.
His operas are what I would call an acquired taste, but boy once you get it, you can't get enough.
For comedy you can't beat his "Albert Herring" a beautiful coming of age story
And for Drama there's nothing more mindf*ucking than "Peter Grimes" the dark, brooding fisherman with a past. That prelude where the clarinets are playing seagull calls and the chorus is personifying the waves lashing up against the coast is one moment in a theater I will never ever forget.
I can't wait to see Anthony Dean Griffey give his performance as Grimes this year at The Met.

No, I'd rather you feel free to speak your mind, admit to being a sock puppet, have an ugly shrieking hysterical meltdown and go away.
Like you always do.
By the way, Michael on the Grand Tier thinks you're a creep.
#38re: Anyone like operas?
Posted: 11/21/07 at 12:24pmthat last meltdown was one for the books. Can you do that again for our entertainment please?
#39re: Anyone like operas?
Posted: 11/21/07 at 12:27pmI honestly don't know what you guys are talking about. I haven't had a meltdown yet. All I want is for everyone to set aside their political opinions and actually get the f*ck along.

Posted: 11/21/07 at 12:27pmNamo, she showed up fashionably late. But, she's now being held hostage in the shed, by Nigel until she promises not to tell anyone that her new husband, David, is Asa's long lost son. . .man I love opera.

At least one of you aren't. :)
I personally don't like soaps, although I do remember seeing an interesting clip of one from awhile back when there was this little boy saying that the older guy was lying, and the other guy was denying it, and then once they left the house, the older guy started yelling at the little boy for telling the truth. Does anyone know which soap this was?

Au contraire. It's my favorite cartoon character of all time. The very first time I saw Team Rocket, I seriously thought that they were a group of traveling theatre thespians who were obsessed with meeting Pikachu. Turns out I wasn't that far off the mark.
The cute little critter in my avvie is Meowth, the single Pokemon character who serves to me as somewhat of a personal mascot. I have at least three Meowth plushies, four if you include the one with it's head chewed off.
The episode in question is my very favorite Pokemon episode that pretty much parodies Hollywood, specificly "Casablanca". Did I mention that "Casablanca" is my favorite movie of all time? And to top it all off. . .Meowth did a Bogie impression! For serial.

Take your pic...that sounds like very soap.
you'd think someone who's read SO MUCH literature would be able to construct a coherent sentence.
