Are there really this many Americans still getting their TV signal "over the airwaves"?

Posted: 1/27/09 at 1:56pmI didn't read the article, but I would think the reason for the delay, is mostly due to the fact that they ran out of money to offset the converter boxes. I got a box for my brother who doesn't have cable, and when I hooked it up to my television to test it out, I decided to keep it and get rid of my cable. I don't watch enough television to warrant paying all that money, anyway. The reception is excellent, and I got about 12 additional stations!

Posted: 1/27/09 at 3:23pmMy grandma is one of those people. However, her logic to the whole thing is weird. Her television broke about a year ago, I guess. My parents wanted to buy her one for Christmas. However, they made the mistake of letting her pick it out. She just doesn't understand today's technology at all, and did not like what she had to choose from. So, she found out about the coupons for the converter box, and wanted a non-digital television so she could get one of those boxes. Needless to say, it really made no sense since her television broke. My dad was able to talk her out of it. But, she just wanted it because she could get it for free.

We have one of the converter boxes, and I'm sure we would have gotten another and all, but...yeah. If I hadn't irresponsibly bought us a new TV on credit, we would still be one of those cable-less chumps getting their TV over the ~airwaves~.
It does seem like we've had plenty of warning by now, though.

Posted: 1/27/09 at 11:20pmThere are approximately 20 million Americans who still receive their TV signal, over the air. About 6 million still don't have the converter box.

Posted: 1/28/09 at 6:32pmOne problem is that many folks requested 2 coupons and only ended up using one. The coupons expire after 90 days, so the government has to figure out how many coupons went unused, then they can send out more.
