I agree with Elisabeth 110%. And that does not happen very often. I usually disagree with a lot of what she says but she is totally right. Joy sounds like an idiot.

Thoughts?
What was the gist of it? I can't play audio at work....

As usual, I disagree with Elisabeth 110%. It's disrespectful towards our brave servicemen and women to practice free speech and voice dissent? Actually, shaming people into silence, and insinuating that it's somehow wrong to speak against the policies of one's government is as UN-AMERICAN as you can get, WICkEDrOcKS.
Bravo Blue! I agree completely.
The argument reminded me of what happened between Joy and Elisabeth here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR4XQ19H8

I can't even read the name "Joy Behar" without thinking of Fred Arnisen adjusting his blouse and saying "Who cayuhs? So whaT?"

Ha! And I can't think of Fred Armisen as Joy without thinking about Kristen Wiig as Elisabeth robotically yapping, "I care. I care. I care." *silence* "I care."
Hasselcrap is so flipping condesending I can't believe it! Here she is clearly saying "I KNOW we are wrong about the war, and am sick of defending it!"
^
blue we do that around the house all the time now! haha. "i care! i care! i care!" and you have to take your finger and tap the surface of a table over and over... i care!
It's disrespectful towards our brave servicemen and women to practice free speech and voice dissent?
I thought the point of our brave servicement and women was to defend our countries, thereby protecting our freedom of speech. I don't agree with war at all, and I'll dissent the bejesus out of Iraq, but I have the utmost admiration for those who fight for what they believe in. They're not mutually exclusive viewpoints.

They're not mutually exclusive at all. That's not what I was saying.

I know, blueroses. I was - in my rambly way - agreeing with you, not disputing you. :)
I expected this kind of a reaction but don't basically call me un-American for agreeing with a f*cking argument on The View.
Elisabeth was saying it's not a day to harp on the negatives of war and how many people have died it's a day to remember their legacies and what they people still fighting for us and who fought for us in previous wars have done for our country. Not that you can't speak out against the government. It's just that all Whoopi did was say "its Veteran's Day" and Joy started ranting about all of the negative things that have happened related to war recently (and there are a LOT but still it's a day to honor those who fought not to focus on so many negative issues).
There's a difference between honoring those who died and saying x amount of people have died, we've lost x amount of money on this war, etc etc...that's not respectful of anyone it's just throwing out facts that have virtually nothing to do with Veterans Day wherein you are supposed to honor and remember those who died. Joy didn't do that she just listed how the current administration has f*cked up this war. We get it, we already know, the war is a mess, a lot of lives have been lost...I'm pretty sure everyone in that audience knew that already.
Can't this ONE day be used to celebrate and honor those who fought for us instead of making it into an argument about money thrown at the war, how many lives have been lost, and statistics that she didn't even back up with any comments about the courage of those soldiers who died. She just spewed them out just to make a political statement.
But I'm ditching this thread after this post and I'll let the rest of you guys talk. There's a reason why I tend to avoid subjects like this...people get VERY heated. I really don't feel like being told that I'm un-American from someone who doesn't know the first thing about me. And I may have read the post wrong and interpreted it the wrong way. I hope I did. If I did, I'm sorry. PEACE OUT.

No prob, Weez.
One of the best ways we can honor our vets is to make sure they receive the care, attention and benefits they deserve, whether serving in a time of war or peace.

If you took time to read the sentence, you'd see I was obviously referring to Elisabeth, not YOU.
And I didn't think the discussion was heated at all. I disagreed with you civilly. You're the one who had a pissy fit when some people didn't share your views. Kind of Hasselbeckian, come to think of it.

Oh, shocker! Nobody has done more to personify the term shrewish bitch, than Joy Behar. It doesn't even matter what she is saying, she says everything like a shrewish bitch. And, she ALWAYS sounds like a self-absorbed, self-impressed idiot.

Amen John, Joy is by far the most aggressive, angry person on that show. She always criticized John McCain for being old and cranky, something that fits her perfectly. At least Whoopi listens to both sides and is rational about things. Elton John's response to the situation was pretty interesting.
I thought Elisabeth was being self-rigtheous- as usual. I am a child of a career Navy man. I did see Joy's point in that many of these vets are not even thought about until (or only) on Veteran's Day. I do see why she brought up some of the negatives to bring things out in the open. It's all so nice to say you respect the soldiers like Elisabeth often does- but what has she done for them lately? I was really glad when Whoopi put an end to the discussion and moved on! just sayin'
