I thought this was mostly exceptional. It took me a bit to get into (although that opening sequence is more terrifying than anything in PARANORMAL ACTIVITY), but once the plot really got going, I was all in. Christopher Dylan White is giving a stunner of a performance, matched by an equally memorable Zachary Desmond. A couple of walkouts around me, but that's their loss. Flaws and all, I highly recommend rushing to grab a ticket to the final extension.

This show had me hooked for the first 15-20 minutes, but it gradually settled into something frustratingly safe - and ultimately toothless. I still think about the most recent, blistering Broadway revival of GOLDEN BOY and I'd love to see this production. After VANYA, I fully trust Sam Yates at the wheel of this play.The fact that Seth Numrich wasn't even Tony-nominated will forever haunt me. What a performance.
Daniel Fish: KRAMER/FAUCI starring Will Brill & Thomas Jay Ryan
Rush to see this at St. Ann’s, especially if you missed it earlier this year. Thomas Jay Ryan is giving a volcanic yet emotionally measured stunner of a turn here. His performance has only grown in resonance since February. And what a treat to get to experience this show in an intimate space like St. Ann’s. Sit as close as you can for the optimal experience, in my opinion. But ultimately, wherever you sit, don’t miss this. Well worth the schlep to Brooklyn.

Absolutely heartbreaking. I realize it’s hardly a rarity to say SPRING AWAKENING was very formative for me, but it also speaks to how impactful that musical was and continues to be. May his legacy live on.

FWIW, I’ve seen DOWNSTATE, BIRTHRIGHT, and BLUEBERRIES all Off Broadway and would easily rank them in that exact order. I don’t know what everyone’s talking about in terms of the lead being a major awards contender, considering she wasn’t even nominated for any major Off Broadway awards when BLUEBERRIES was eligible.
