The first film was very big in DC at least on the anticipation front. It was in DC theaters when I was there on an internship and a lot of the conservative and libertarian non-profits and think tanks were getting their employees to go the film screenings.

From what Strummer said, it does seem like certain politicans are using the film as a Coles Notes version of the novel.

They are missing the obvious audience for any Rand, IMHO, which is teenagers. That was the only time I, for one anyway, felt what she was preaching through her novels had weight.

Yeah, you really have to read Rand between the ages of 15 to 24 for it to really boom. And NOTHING sends kids today screaming to the movie theaters quite like prolonged business dealings!!

Hesse is kind of the same way. I was rhapsodic about him when I was in my late teens, now I'm like...really?

That's a good comparison. I had an English teacher in grade 8 who told me to read Siddhartha, and at the time I felt like it changed my world view. I was blown away. I don't think I'd be now (though I appreciate Hesse and what he was trying to do, as an adult now, more than I do Rand).

I tweeted a couple weeks ago (to my seven or eight followers---hehe) about the downward trajectory I see among actors. Features, then pay cable, network, basic cable (Lifetime, Hallmark, Syfy), with the bottom being Christian movies.

I saw Samantha Mathis and a few others among the cast list and immediately thought they must be very hard up for work to take this on. Made me sad.

Oh...and Sean Hannity's in it too...although it's kind of appropriate that he's in a what appears to be a steaming pile of poo.

Jean Stapleton's son directed it...I thought at one time he had a promising directing career going....guess not.
