Posted: 10/2/12 at 10:49amI can't believe any capitalist would choose to back a sequel to a film that lost so much money.

Posted: 10/9/12 at 11:21pmI just saw the commercial for this the other night and was so dismayed to see Samantha Mathis in it. I really hope she just needs the dough.

Posted: 10/10/12 at 1:18amJon Polito and Michael Lerner were in Part I. When I learned that I got mad at the Coen Brothers. How could they not give those two a steady supporting role along the way?

Posted: 10/10/12 at 1:55amI have to admit to being genuinely surprised that this is being made... The first half made zero impression, it seems, even in a "look at what a big flop this is" way.

Posted: 10/10/12 at 3:15amI didn't realize that despite the same budget, they couldn't afford the same cast for this installment (and there's still meant to be a third part?). Watching the trailers makes me long for the camp of The Fountainhead...

Posted: 10/10/12 at 11:23amI just hope they keep that 50-page speech in tact, just like Ayn Rand would've wanted.

Posted: 10/10/12 at 11:38amYeah that's what killed the made-for tv version that's been bouncing around Hollywood. Randites INSIST it's not worth doing without the treatise and TV executives know that no one is going to sit and watch a two-hour speech as the climax to your miniseries.

Posted: 10/10/12 at 11:42amI'd totally watch it if it were done in one continuous shot, like Hitchcock's "Rope" (yes film experts, I know Hitchcock cheated).

That's almost as bad as when Michael York did The Omega Code.

DB Sweeney and Jason "I Got Free of Scientology" Beghe is are in it, too? It's like a treasure trove of lost early 90s actors!
I found that out on a Breitbart.com blog, which hilariously writes,
"The trailer for "Atlas Shrugged: Part II" has hit the web, and the blogs and mainstream media are reacting in the expected way.
They are either dismissing it or flat-out ignoring the fact that it looks a hundred times better than the first (which was still good) and has a real shot of connecting with audiences on October 12th."

Phyllis that quote is priceless. Sigh.

No Eric it was never made- partly because no one could figure out what to do with Galt's 50 page speech that serves as the story's "Climax."
When Rand was alive should would meet with potential producers and directors and tell them that they could only make Atlas Shrugged if they promised to use every word of the book.

Posted: 10/10/12 at 9:34pmThanks Joe, I had no idea--although of course for The Fountainhead she did her own screenplay. I admit as a teen I read Fountainhead and Anthem, but never bothered with Atlast Shrugged...

Posted: 10/10/12 at 9:55pmAw...Arye Gross is in it, too. Poor Samantha Mathis has to make that dialogue sound real? For everyone's sake, lets hope this one disappears quickly.

I can say I've only seen one bit of promotional material for it, near Rockefeller Center. And that's probably a lot more than most people have seen.
I read it in high school and had a very brief fling with it. I could never even get into The Fountainhead.

Posted: 10/10/12 at 11:54pmAll I know of The Fountainhead is that Robbie Gould told Frances "Baby" Houseman she should read it in the Catskills in 1963.
