Attn: Teachers
Attn: Teachers#1
Posted: 6/5/07 at 4:14pmSo I just got a call to come in for a second interview and to have a lesson observed. Any advice?? I have an idea for a lesson which is a lot of fun and can be used for various grade levels. I am just a little nervous. I really want/need this job.

Go with your most comfortable plan. They're looking for organization, clear goals and classroom control.
Knock 'em dead, sweetie!
(The evaluators, not the kids. The kids would be a bad thing.)

Thanks guys. I am planning on teaching a lesson that I taught a while ago. It was fairly straight-forward, a little difficult to manage, but that made it all the more fun. It allows the kids to get up a move a lot.
Moony, did you get my message on your cell?

Do you know what grade and what subject they want you to teach? It's a little tricky if they didn't tell you.
Go with something you're comfortable doing. They're mostly going to watch your demeanor and interactions with the students and how you react with a group of live children who are not going to be perfect. (Unlike those lessons you would do in college classes where everyone just did exactly what you asked them to do!
)
As much as I hated doing these kinds of "demo lessons", I do think they are a definite move in the right direction. Then you can really see how a person works with the students.
Oh...and make sure you have a copy of your lesson plan to give to the observation team. They'll want to see your plan and how you actually execute it.
And good luck!

I ditto the advice about.
It's much like an audition. No your material backwards and forwards. Something will inevitably go awry and the more familiar and comfortable you are with your lesson and accompanying elements the easier it is going to be to keep yourself on track.
I hate demo lessons, they're so inauthentic, but they seem to become the norm now.

How funny is this, I got a call a minute ago for another job interview. I guess this means that one way or another I have to start working again.
Thanks for the advice guys! I appreciate it.
