I know this has probably been answered, but I couldn't find anything when I did a quick search..
I'm auditioning for a community theater show tomorrow..it is a straight comedy. I know I should wear something comfortable but I'm not sure how comfortable...
Would nice jeans and a nice tee shirt be appropriate?
I've auditioned for shows before, but this is the first time in a while and I'm a little out of the loop. =)

Jeans and a nice shirt are fine. Be comfortable but look presentable. I would suggest a shirt with no commercial writing on it, but just show who you are.
Also, if you're familiar with the show, try to look the part you're auditioning for subtly. If it's a sexy character, wear your hair down with red lipstick (unless of course, you are a man). When I auditioned for Zaneeta in the Music Man, I had my hair up in a bow. That way, the director can see you in the part.
Hope that helped. Break a leg!

Totally break a leg, sorry I couldn't respond in time. But could someone help me. I'm auditioning for the Wardrobe from Beauty and the Beast (hence, my title) and I was wondering what I should do about my appearance, it's for school, just so you know.

Posted: 6/27/06 at 6:56pmLOL! Thanks, well like they were talking about hair and I was wondering if there was anything I could wear to show me in character, without the huge, heavy, very expensive costume, which I've seen, and not a real wardrobe.

Personally I would never wear jeans to an audition. Look professional! If you're a guy, wear nice slacks and a dress shirt, but no tie...Girls shouldn't wear short skirts or jeans or flip flops either. Nice dress pants or skirt are perfect. The skirt should be knee length or a little lower.
I once saw a girl audition for college with low rider jeans, a halter that did not fit her...and a sparkly belt. OH! And flip flops...for real homie?
looking professional is the key!!!!

No writing, and nothing busy.
Especially no costumes. That's incredibly cheesy.

) That was a joke

If your directors have a problem with loons, then they're in the wrong business.

I know we're just talking about high school musicals right now. I just thought I'd share a fun auditioning tidbit:
Idina Menzel painted her face green for her Wicked audition
that always makes me giggle

That's pretty funny, and cool! I love Idina Menzel! Is she still married to Taye Diggs?
You know what else is cool? I just got my Thespian card in the mail! WHOO-HOO!

This is what I wore when I auditioned a little over a year ago. They said I was just too perfect for the part, whatever that means.

"Personally I would never wear jeans to an audition. Look professional!"
but what if its your character?? i mean im auditioning for scout next week in "To Kill a Mockingbird" and i was thinking about wearing jeans or maybe my kakie(however you spell it)shorts because i think coming all dressed up would make you look so out of character that they wouldnt chose you but idk

Posted: 6/30/06 at 1:42pmYeah but if I'm auditioning for Maureen in Rent, I'm not going to wear leather pants! If you have the voice for the part, or you can act the part, they'll want you. Just because you dress the part doesn't mean you're right for the role. An audition is an audition. Trust me, if it's one thing that directors and college reps love about us LVA kids is that we ALWAYS LOOK PROFESSIONAL. They eat it up. They actually get pissed when people wear jeans, they don't take you seriously.
