I am a freshman at Kennesaw State University and I am a Musical Theatre Major. Now, we're doing auditons the day after we start school. The monologue is a comedy from Beth Henley's "The Miss Firecracker Contest". Anyway, so my problem is picking a 16-bar musical piece to sing. I can do everything, character- real belty- soft and sweet- opera, etc. I am an alto (when belting) and I am soprano when in "opera mode" lol. I want to show off my talents as well as possible, and that is all that they said they want me to do.
It's only required that it was 16 bars. They apparently aren't too picky. However, this audition is my audition for every show they are doing this year:

365 Days/365 Plays
Pajama Game
Out of the Dark
Fuddy Meers
Moby Dick

Good gosh if you guys could seriously help me, that would be awesome!!!

Thank you SO much! And if you have any more suggestions, let me know =) It's pretty crazy. I just found out about these auditions today because I changed my major from Biology. Auditions are Thursday and Friday... ha pretty crazy, right? I guess good thing I have a monologue.

If auditions are that soon, do something you know. As long as it shows off your voice, it'll be fine. The only one of those shows I know of is PG, and it's pretty belty, so I'd do an alto-belt song if I were you. Let me repeat, make sure you know it REALLY well.

"Ice Cream" is from the Boys from Syracuse. I like "Girl in 14G". There is a book by the same people who publish the Singer's Anthology. It's an audition book broken down into voice ranges and all the songs are cut into 16 bars. Its a handy book to have around.

You might be right. A girl sang in my class sang this song and another one, the other one might be from Syracuse.
