Australia- A Baz Luhrmann Film

Australia- A Baz Luhrmann Film

I'm excited to see what Baz has in store for his next film. I saw the trailer for the movie when I went to go see Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Interested by the project - and anything with Hugh automatically gets my attention - but I was distracted (again!) by Ms. Kidman's inability to move her face!

It looks very 'grand and epic', and those don't come along very often anymore.

I just hope the 'grandness' is backed up by some substance - which also doesn't happen very often anymore.

I was most surprised by Hugh Jackman not looking like Hugh Jackman.

He looks like he's checking her armpits for lumps.

They're as far apart from each other as 2 kids at a middle school dance.

Regardless, I'm still excited for it:)

Doesn't even look like Nicole or Hugh. I would've guessed Naomi Watts.

Nicole Kidman is coming back to Oz shortly to reshoot some scenes. Hmmm, doesn't that usually mean there are some problems? Why do I sense another Baz Luhrman wank-a-thon?

re: Australia- A Baz Luhrmann Film

Not necessarily - "reshoots" are sometime done to re-do a few scenes maybe where the sound quality was bad, or they need to add something to spice it up a bit, or they noticed something that had to be changed or fixed. Hugh is going back also which explains why he hasn't shaved yet. Plus Nicole had morning sickness a lot (according to Hugh) in the last month of filming so that might have something to do with it. I think these reshoots had been scheduled for a while. Many films do reshoots or pickups - they happened for Moulin Rouge and even for Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Doesn't necessarily mean anything.

There was a test screening recently which received generally very positive reviews so perhaps they are addressing some of the stuff from that also.

I am a HUGE Baz Luhrmann Fan! Is anyone subcribed to the Podcast on iTunes!?

I wish I could go back and catch his version of La Boheme!

After watching the trailer, it looks like they have everything but a story.

I hope this isn't an "all style, no content" movie.

Three people who saw the test screening gave very good feedback on the movie ( Check out the movie site Ain't It Cool News for 2 of those reviews) - on the story ( an epic romantic drama partly set in the Australian outback and moves on to the bombing of Darwin in the second world war), the film-making, and the acting performances. Many of the Oscar prediction sites include this forthcoming movie among the possible contenders for the coming award season.

I am very much looking forward to it!

best12bars, all Luhrmans films are "all style, no content", and the style usually isn't very good. I smell a bomb. Does the world at large want to see a film called AUSTRALIA?

Now, here's an off topic, topic. There is a rumour going around here (in Oz) that Nicole Kidman was never pregnant - she wore a padded stomach and then adopted. Hmmm.

re: Australia- A Baz Luhrmann Film

Yeah, that's why she dropped out of "The Reader" in January and Hugh lied when he gave an interview saying she had terrible morning sickness in the last month of filming last December and wasn't riding horses anymore. Even an UK journalist, who was on the set in the last month of filming, guessed that she was pregnant because of his observation of her. But it was all an elaborate hoax.. please...
