So how do you think Ave Q will play in front of the republican audience that will likely be infesting our broadway theaters?

I would love to be a fly on the wall.
I would rather them watch Embedded.

The best lines in Embedded are almost as good as Bush Is Only For Now.

Corine, I love how you keep saying Maggot drop and give me 69! This is the second time I've read it in a post and it's really funny!

"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

Republicans go to the theater? They must follow their leader, and that's something he NEVER does.

Of course going to Broadway theater would require going to New York, and heaven forbid Mr. Champion of 9/11 would ever do that (except to campaign).

The one thing everyone said to do after 9/11 was support -- i.e., visit -- New York. I see how Bush did that. Kind of like he did the other thing 9/11 prompted many to do: be with their family. Does he EVER see his daughters?

you do realize frontrow that the gop national convention is in manhattan this summer right?

and while he may not enjoy a night at the theatre, his wife and daughters did take in the producers while in town a few months back. there was quite a thread about that and the ad-libs that went with it.

Yes Frontrow, believe it or not we do go to the theater re: oink
Sadly, it doesn't suprise me that people will actually leave New York just because a silly political convention is coming to town, but whatever...

Theatremafia,

People of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, pursuations and political ideologies go to the theare.

Oh, and live in NYC as well.

Cheers!

P.S. When the day comes that someone else is President I would bet a that the Bush jokes in AVENUE Q will be replaced by the names of whomever is President regardless of political party.

thirdrow, while i appreciate your outrage, you must understand that republicans are a significant minority here and as such will be abused (and i use that term loosely) quite often. is it right? no. but compared to the orcs and trolls and lizardoids on some sites out there, the name calling on bww.com is downright tame.

Thirdrowcenter,
It was meant to be insulting and nasty. I came back last night from a wonderful evening at Ave Q to turn on the TV and watch on the news just how many more people have been killed in Iraq. It filled me with outrage . I hate Bush and just can not comprehend republicans. And since the show has a closeted republican character I also wonder how it will play to a audience that week that will no doubt have convention overflow in it. The broadway community ( for the most part) is extremely liberal and passionate about it. Updated On: 4/9/04 at 12:46 AM

Nah! YA DON'T SAY.

I for one am nominating you for an award, mafia. The insight and groundbreaking information in this thread is downright amazing. Rather than list all of the things about your post, and liberals that I can not comprehend or list all of the traits of your "thoughts" that filled me with outrage, I will simply sit back and laugh at how stupid people look when they are so filled with righteous indignation that they ignore all of the facts, and are completely blinded to any positives in a situation. There is only black and white with people in that mindset, but the world is colored in shades of grey.

If any of your so called pigs buy a ticket to a broadway show, then they will be supporting the extremely liberal broadway community. Perhaps, much of that money will make it's way to Senator Kerry's campaign. You should be thrilled.

This entire thread is ridiculous. I fought to ignore it, but regardless what side of the aisle that someone sits... I can't stand people who spew hatred and ignorence.

now see, if namo can cross party lines to offer to abuse me, a dyed in the wool republican and staunch imperialist war mongering neo-con, i see hope for those on both sides who are willing to open their eyes and see that a label is not always the entire definition of a person.

i read a good article the other day on the fact that americans are segregating themselves into political neighborhoods which contributes to the partisan rancor. i think that even though there is enough on both sides with which to disagree that unless we face the facts that both sides have a few redeeming qualities, we're pretty much doomed to a bloody future. i'm not saying you have to agree with them, but the rhetoric at the grass roots level is the worst i've ever seen it on both sides.

i see it as a direct result of the diminishment of spirituality in this country. i don't mean any specific religion, but the idea that as people move away from a religion that ties them together they look for some new unifying idea. in america right now, it's politics. politics is the new godless religion that allows people who would ordinarily never say an ill word about someone to demonize their neighbor because their political leaders tell them it's ok. the internet and mass media stoke the fires by trumpetting only the most vicious attacks from either side and the most intolerant voices in order to fan the flames and generate more interest in their product. it's funny but the only place it's not safe to be right now is in the middle, cuz on either side ya got friends, in the middle it's lonely because you take shots from either side.

i don't really know what any of this means and maybe i've had too much coffee, but if republicans are pigs, then democrats are the flesh eating undead.

Ckeaton and Papa are able to express their feelings far more eloquently than I can. I'd just like to say that I am a registered Democrat but I now consider myself an Independent voter. To say that you hate people who vote Republican is insane to me. You are not superior because you are liberal.

Thirdrow, this is a common trait of the off-topic board especially. The die-hard liberals here often use hatred, drama, and anger to attempt to make their points.

Regardless of your political position, often the ideas that they are trying to express are lost in the fray. It's too bad. Because our ability to openly debate is one of our greatest liberties.

Take this thread for example. The potential to explore the GOP position on Avenue Q, or the potential impact of the convention on ticket sales has been lost to this age old argument.

As a moderate republican I love Avenue Q, and am currently holding several tickets! I appreciate the humor, and I think that the messages, including 'For Now', are valid and thought provoking. According to this thread though, it should outrage me, right?

Boycott thought! Absolutely not.

You know, I gotta agree with ckeaton here.

Feel free to think what you want, but nobody wins any converts by screetching - the left-wingers are just as bad as the right-wingers in that respect.

Theatermafia, maybe some GOOD will come out of Republicans seeing AVENUE Q. Maybe a real, flesh-and-blood Rod will see the show and 'come out'.

papalovesmambo -- of course I know the Republican convention is in NY this summer, in a downtown location no less. Bush has to further exploit 9/11, doesn't he? That's why I pointed out that he has never come to NY except to campaign since 9/14/01. A true hero of 9/11 would have spent more time in the place most affected.

And, by the way, the "partisan rancor" someone referred to, which many Americans hate, can be traced to one man: Ronald Reagan, another Republican hero. He sold out the GOP to the religious right and that's when the turn-back-all-progress-and-civil-rights movement started.

As for ckeaton's comment that "The die-hard liberals often use hatred, drama, and anger..." You forgot humor. Ever notice that virtually all current satirists (Daily Show, Simpsons, The Onion, etc.), even though they mock everyone, are liberals? And they also happen to be, such as those three named, among the funniest comedy writers/comedians around. Yet another area where conservatives fall short.

So the Sunni and Shiites are now uniting to fight the Americans. Gee, do you mean they're trying to liberate themselves...from the 'liberators'? Maybe Bush should invade Israel, so those two eternally warring sides will unite.

George W. Bush does not have a single redeeming quality.

And to get back to the topic of this message board...if anyone has evidence of him EVER going to the theater (Kennedy Center Honors don't count), let us know. Updated On: 4/9/04 at 11:54 AM

oh yeah, he shoulda opened an office in nyc so you wouldn't have had to leave the city to protest. that woulda helped, huh?

blaming ronald reagan for the entirety of partisan rancor is pathetic. do you rememeber the mandate with which reagan was elected in '84? 49 states. 54.5 million votes, the largest ever by a presidential candidate and there were less voters. if you want to blame reagan then you're admitting that it started because democrats, angry at the american people after being rejected, spent the next 8 years taking potshots until they got power and then demonized the opposition to the point that coherent conversation became inpossible.

but after they lose this one perhaps more moderate minds will prevail in donkeylanf and they'll realize that hatred and intolerance is ugly no matter what policies it defends.

Reagan caused the partisan rancor because he started moving the party so far right, thereby greatly increasing the ideological divide.

Then they couldn't believe their revolution wasn't permanent and sore-losered their way through Clinton's eight years. That's when Fox News, Limbaugh & the other radio blowhards, etc. emerged. And now this complete moron with a missile is given the presidency.

The partisan rancor does not predate Reagan. It began then and has gotten worse, but that's when it started.

If your life is dedicated to killing people and making yourself richer at the expense of others, I understand you're supporting the Republicans...because that is ALL Cheney, Bush, etc. have ever accomplished in their life. Every society in world history was built on progress, not regression. Think about it. Then think about those cretins you support and how every policy of theirs is regressive. And think about the people they criticize -- people who are concerned about human rights, peace, helping the disenfranchised, healing racial tensions, etc. etc. That's who they oppose.

What difference does it make how many Spanish, Japanese, Iraqis, even Americans die because of Bush's actions? Bush and Cheney aren't suffering, so it's okay. Just like 50,000 dead Americans in Vietnam didn't matter to them, since heaven forbid those great military men would be anywhere near an actual war

yep, partisanship had nothing to do with nixon's impeachment, nor with lbj in '64 slagging goldwater with the now infamous mushroom cloud ad, nor was there any partisan rancor when fdr set off on the great society. yep the end of civilization as we know it began with reagan and if bush is not defeated the world will end and oh my goodness how can we even consider supporting him, oh i am such a horrible person. i think i'll run home and cry. then i'll pull the switch for bush in november and watch as the collective heads of the democratic party explode in november when kerry's sent back to mass.

but this is not a debate, it's just a place for you to vent your spleen and scream...marcos, marcos zuniga, is that you?
