re: Awkward Couch Moment with Miley Cyrus on Ellen

I think Ellen is significantly older than 15, but maybe it's the smoking that has made her look the way she does. Anyway, I'll defer to your expertise.

She squirmed so hard, there must have been a stain on the chair after she left.

Whoa.

I've never liked Miley Cyrus, but I've always just kind of ignored her... she really kind of freaked me out in this. Does she always act like this?

Honestly? I'm only a year older than her, and I'm an immature doofus, and even I would never act that psycho on TV. I don't know what kind of twenty-year-old would think that kinda behavior was 'cute.'

Bah, if he's twenty years old, I'll eat my Jane Eyre cast recording.

re: Awkward Couch Moment with Miley Cyrus on Ellen

"Okay, I don't watch a lot of these interview shows because they bore me (in general).

And Ellen is sometimes the exception to the rule, depending on who she has on.

But ... why the hell wouldn't Ellen get off that subject?! Why should anyone HAVE to answer that question? Especially a minor. She wouldn't let up, and then she had the gaul to get an irritated look on her face when this famous tweener wouldn't answer the personal question.

Granted Miley's "giggling" was juvenile... and she IS a juvenile... but that immature response was a lot nicer than looking Ellen directly in the eye and saying, "F*ck off, it's none of your business!"

... which I think Ellen definitely deserved to hear, right then.

I understand what you're saying, I really do, but at the same time... interviewers (Ellen, Oprah, and otherwise) ask celebrities about their romantic relationships allll the time. I feel like, if Miley really wants to be in the limelight, she NEEDS to learn to handle this kind of thing. A simple "I'm sorry, I really would rather not talk about this as it's personal to me" would have sufficed.

Again, I agree that it would have been nice if Ellen had backed off, but the thing is most celebrities would have ASKED her to back off. Miley didn't- she just got completely weird and awkward, which I think would kind of cause anyone to kind of go "... oookay, so is he your boyfriend or isn't he?", you know what I mean? Giving completely random body language and giggling like that is NOT the way to send signals that you don't want to talk about something. And she needs to realize that. I'm sorry, I know she's only 15, but a 15 year old is, what, a sophomore in high school? I KNOW that even I, an extremely awkward person, would have been able to handle the situation a little better than THAT, even at that age. It's not THAT young.

I just feel like she needs to LEARN these things- not be protected from them- if she wants to continue in the entertainment industry. Otherwise she's going to end up being 25 or 30 and making a COMPLETE fool of herself all over the place whenever anyone asks her about her relationships. It's FINE not to want to talk about it, but learn how to say that, don't just go bazurk on the interviewer and expect them to know that what you really are asking is for them to stop.

Just my opinion :)
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

She's FIFTEEN.

She's not much more than a child. (Sorry to all you 15-ers out there, but that's the fact.)

Why should Miley be expected to behave like "other celebrities?" She should be expected to behave like other 15-year-olds, which she did. Goofy, embarrassed, giggly behavior and all. Especially when pressured to answer a personal question like that on national TV. Pressured not once, but repeatedly.

Why shouldn't Ellen act like the adult in that awkward situation and take the high road?

Why do you expect "adult behavior" from the teenager, but not from the adult?

re: Awkward Couch Moment with Miley Cyrus on Ellen

Besty, I think the whole incident was embarrassing but even though Miley may be 15, I would think that with her huge amount of fame and experience in front of cameras, audiences, paparazzi, etc., she'd be a little smoother in her conversations by now. I don't think Ellen is the first person to ask her about her boyfriend.

But- on her behalf, we don't know what the situation is - maybe they're about to break up or maybe there's something askew in the relationship and she was caught off guard and ended up looking foolish in trying to cover up not knowing what to say. ??

Oh for fudge sake they were both goofing with each other. You probably bought the whole "Miley and her father were duped by Annie Liebowitz" story, too.

Yikes! That was cringe-worthy!
I think even though she has been in front of cameras, audiences, paparazzi, etc., she has led a somewhat sheltered existance. There are people, in all walks of life, who are very accomplished and good at their jobs, who are socially inept. She strikes me as a kid who's been told what to do all her life, and really has not had to think for herself very much. She also seems to be a "youngish" 15 year old emotionally. Another good reason for her to not be "dating" a 20 year old.

best12bars - I agree with you. Ellen should have just let it go.

The real question is whether or not they discussed the highly controversial episode of Hannah Montannah about diabetes called "No Sugar, Sugar."

The real question is where are this girl's parents that a 15 year old has a 20 year old boyfriend. That's crazy.

Actually, I read that Miley's boyfriend lives with her and Billy Ray.

Craig, that is what I was thinking. Dakota is 14 (almost 15) and she wouldn't act like that. She is so much more mature that Miley.
