Christian Bale was arrested in London today in connection with assault charges brought against him by his mother and sister.

The incident apparently occurred in his hotel on Sunday.

The actor is currently being questioned by police.

He has yet to release a statement.

Update:

He has handed himself into police voluntarily over the mysterious domestic feud.

He went to Belgravia police station in central London earlier today and is still there, being held in custody.

When asked if Bale had been arrested, a police spokesman said "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. He currently remains in custody."

His family is not talking.

I want to know more details before I jump to conclusions but assaulting your 61 year old mom is NOT cool. I am guessing he will be entering rehab by the end of the week. If this story broke a week ago do you think it would have hurt the box office success of The Dark Knight? The suits at Warner Bros must be livid.

Hey,I am interested in hearing his side but like I said assaulting your Mom is NOT cool. The media releases bits and pieces of a story so they can be the first to break a story. If he was drunk he could blame the booze. However, family members are funny. There could be a history with his family and it could be something like verbal assault or the family may have made it up for whatever reasons. This is why I like to wait and reserve judgment until we have all the facts. Its sad the media does not follow this rule.

Bale's mother was a CIRCUS CLOWN! (Holy Joker flashback, Batman!)

Bale's fist kiss was from a circus acrobat.

In 2000, Bale's father married Gloria "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle" Steinhem. He died in 2003.

It depends on what he is filming right now. He has said that he gets "crazy" when he potrays intense characters and takes them home with him. He said his marriage almost ended when he was filming "Harsh Times". Then again, working with Eva Longoria might have thrown him over the edge. Maybe he was in character and working through something. At least he didnt try to hit Gloria Steinem, his step mother. She would've beat his A#@!

Oh man, I'd go crazy if I had to work on 'Harsh Times' an' all. It was *almost* a stoner comedy, but with lots of crazy and angst. Weirdness!

I don't think it's to do with appearance. As a fairly poorly chosen example, if Tom Cruise had done this, there would be much more disgust. He too is considered good-looking by a lot of people, but people also have less respect for him. Personally, I'm quite dismayed by this news story, because Bale always struck me as intense, but well-grounded. If you get to a stage where you're allegedly assaulting family members, you're not well-grounded anymore, so my perceptions have been proven to be wrong, which is throwing me. If, instead, he'd long been giving off the impression that he could tip over the edge at any minute, people would be less confused, and consequently more ready to show disgust.

That's my thoughts on the subject anyway.
