er, I knew that would get me into trouble.......Roy, my parents will be with us in LC, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone........if it was just me, Steve and my sister I'd have mentioned it long ago.
Since WA is now part of my sales territory, I expect to be up much more often...and I'll def let you know.

Cute story....
My great grandmother and her best friend decided to go out on Black Friday sometime in the 50s/60s. Her friend Liz had been never shopping on Black Friday before. So they're going along enjoying their shopping and Liz leans over to my great-grandma and whispers "Thelma....I don't understand...I don't see any more blacks today than usual."
I know...not very politically correct but no maliciousness in it. just a cute story. I hope thats okay. If it's offensive I'll remove it. Just let me know.

For Borstalboy~
When Black Friday comes
I'll stand down by the door
And catch the gray men
When they dive from the fourteenth floor
When Black Friday comes
I'll collect everything I'm owed
And before my friends find out
I'll be on the road
When Black Friday falls you know it's got to be
Don't let it fall on me

All my years of retail made me hate this day so much. But it's NOT the busiest shopping day of the year- no where near.
I do really despise all the news stories that say that it is, then say things like "Call ahead and put all the items you want on hold at the register so you won't waste your time."
Yes, don't waste your time, waste mine!

"I'd rather go through the things I already have and don't need before I pile on more useless crap.
I'll be spending "Black Friday" painting, eBaying, and FreeCycling."
er, you don't count "ebaying" as shopping????

True. In my experience, the worst time period is the weekend before Christmas. It's hard to pinpoint a specific day, since the whole time is a disaster.
And I SO agree with you about the whole "call ahead and have your s**t put on hold" nonsense. Not only is that a great way to start endless lines at the cash wrap, but it's a moot point since most places won't save holds past the end of the shopping day. PLUS, if there's already a long line when you get there, you're really not saving yourself any time, because you'll still have to wait for a cashier to open up.

The term "Black Friday" wasn't used until the 1970s.

Posted: 11/22/07 at 12:17amWoodbury Commons in NY is opening at midnight. I'll probably tag along with friends for the experience. Normally, though, I never usually go anywhere near stores on Black Friday unless I need something for the tree.
