BLACK FRIDAY

"The term "Black Friday" wasn't used until the 1970s."
Eh well she said 50s/60s when I asked. Blame her haha.

It is now officially Black Friday. How frightening for retailers everywhere.
Now, I will admit to having a few friday-post-Thanksgiving shopping adventures of my own (and yes, the stories are true, I did once elbow a woman in the back playing offense for a relative I was shopping with who wanted to get her hands on a very cheap one of those nifty iPod-dock alarm clocks) but when we were driving home from a relative's tonight we drove through the local shopping center and the Best Buy, which was closed at the time and not due to open until five tomorrow morning, was already being stalked by salivating, obsessive customers with tents, fold-up chairs and board games. I might get a little overzealous at times, but that seems a bit much.

Posted: 11/23/07 at 12:09amOh, I have a couple truly compelling stories from early-morning Kohl's sales I've been to in the past. It was all worth it for the cheap cashmere sweaters, though.

Posted: 11/23/07 at 5:28amI tried to go to Circuit City at 5am this morning. I walked all the way down to the store, and saw that the line seemed to go on forever and I turned around and went back home. Nothing is worth standing in the cold. I tried to go on their site, but of course it was down due to "adding more products" what a time to go down. Ah well, I didn't need anything anyway.

My mother and I were up at 2:30 this morning to go shopping. We hit Kohl's at 4 am, the mall and JC Penny's right after, Toys R Us, KMart, and Target. Spent about 300-400 dollars. Thank goodness the Starbucks at the mall was open, I was pretty much a zombie until I got my peppermint mocha.
I'm usually up until 3 am most nights, so I haven't slept since 9 yesterday morning. I'm going to sleep until 3 pm now so I can be rested for my show tonight.

My mall I went to this morning wasn't bad at all. Hardly anyone there! I went and sat outside of Express for the 20 minutes before they opened--and MAYBE 15 er 20 people went in when it opened. I was the first to check out...after shopping around for about 15 minutes. Saved about 50 bucks! Got some awesome pants (wrong size), 2 nice button up shirts and a sweater for 110 dollars!
I went over to J Crew and go a sweater over there, which I think I'm going to return and buy it online. The collar is a little bit stretched out from the mannequin it was on, I think.

I came |----| <---that close to running out and seeing if I could find a Wii today (all for myself. screw shopping for others) until I came home and balanced my checkbook and realized my car insurance payment is due next week.

My brother brought his Wii home for Thanksgiving for the family to play. I'm addicted. My favorite is the guitar one although the bowling and tennis are fun too.
He doesn't have it but I'd love to try the Dance, Dance Revolution.

Posted: 11/23/07 at 1:00pmI'll be hitting the mall in about 2 hours. Though I avoid the black friday chaos like the plague, here in CT, by about 1pm, the stores usually clear out and everyone is home sleeping or eating more turkey lol I have to exchange some stuff at H&M anyway.

Rose, it comes with a mat I guess you put on the floor and then the video screen shows you where to "dance"
One of my cousins friends has it and she is apparently addicted to it. And she is 27.

I just listed my Nintendo DS Lite with Super Mario 64 DS and within 2 hours, it is already up to $80.99! 1 day listing... such a good idea to list it today! :)
What else do I have in this house that I could sell??

i'm appalled we didn't get any kind of a discount at the EMERGENCY ROOM this morning. we were there by 5 a.m. and everything. i'm happy to report that my man is home now and resting fairly comfortably.

Posted: 11/23/07 at 7:56pmI wonder why the internet claims that the term Black Friday can only be traced back to the early 1970s?? That term was used in Philadelphia, long before that. I recall that term being used as far back as the early 1960s. Although, I recall that nobody knew what I meant when I referred to it in the Washington, D.C. area, in the early 1980s.
