I've always loved this tree...

Posted: 11/30/07 at 1:30pmMe too, Addy. When I was very little my parents told my sister and I that Santa Claus brought the tree along with the presents. We never saw our tree until we woke up on Christmas morning. That meant that poor ol' dad had to go out Christmas tree shopping late on Christmas eve - after his little ones had gone to bed. In those days they didn't have Christmas tree farms that popped out identical 'cookie cutter' trees. You had to actually go through trees on a lot the same way you did if you were looking for one growing wild. By late Christmas eve they'd be pretty much picked over so Dad didn't have a lot to choose from. I remember some Christmases when our tree was so bent over and crooked that it had to be tied to the hinge on the front door in order to keep it from falling over. My favorite year was the one where Dad ended up with 3 'Charlie Brown' trees that he tied together so they'd make one nice fat one!

heh. Okay, I would NEVER put that on my tree.
Addy, Urban Outfitters used to sell a fake Charlie Brown Christmas tree with the one red ornament. My best friend has it. It's adorable.

Sorry HD.
I was watering the plant and I... broke your ornament.
Oh, and I used up all the glue.

"Santa Claus brought the tree along with the presents"
Mamie - we did that, too!
After Midnight Mass, all kids who still believed in Santa Claus went to bed, and everyone else stayed up to listen to Christmas music, wrap presents and decorate the house and tree. The best pictures from my childhood are of the kids' faces when they came down the stairs and saw the house transformed.
