BWW's Book Play Readers Club

Why not?

Any interest in an online group discussing recently-written plays? Not the classics or the highly popular titles, but new plays that you may not have heard of yet!

PM me with some title suggestions (including the playwright) and if there's enough interest, I'll throw out the first title.

New play every two weeks?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

The title is confusing. It looks like you're trying to spell book.

Yeah, I guess Rob doesn't allow HTML coding in thread titles...

not sure how mainstream these are, but I just read two plays "picasso at the lapin agile" by steve martin and "some girl(s)" by neil labute.

"Applause begets applause in the theatre, as laughter begets laughter and tears beget tears." CLAYTON HAMILTON, "Theory of the Theatre" "I think theater ought to be theatrical ... you know, shuffling the pack in different ways so that it's -- there's always some kind of ambush involved in the experience. You're being ambushed by an unexpected word, or by an elephant falling out of the cupboard, whatever it is." TOM STOPPARD

Wait. Are we reading players or playing readers?

I'm confused. Is this on off-topic?

Yes actually. I definitely thought that.

I think you misunderstood. When I said I was playing with myself thinking of Donna Reed, I was actually reading a player and reeding a clarinet while watching Father Knows Best.

Nonetheless, are we reading transcripts of Sunset & 42nd while playing Bach?

there are transcripts? really?

i assume that needy reed instrumentalists are being paid to not play just to weigh the words?

Well, we made transcripts just in case someone wanted to start an official BWW S&42 Transcript Reading Club.

Do needy reed instrumentalists have the same minority hiring procedures as college football?

For whenever the twins of wit tire themselves out:

I'd be all over a play reading group. I'm surprised this hasn't been done on BWW before.

I bet this might even get more play over on the main board. I bet the group of people who would love to read and discuss the librettos of Rent and Wicked would be overwhelming!

I don't think the denizens of the main board know what a play is.
