BWWers in DC

I am back in Washington for the summer!

I was wondering if there are any other BWWers in the area. I would love to meet up with some people, or at least get theatre recommendations from those more familar with this city's scene.

I am finding myself much more bored this time--- could be the job, could be that I got spoiled having such a wonderful time in London. Anyway, I would love some recommendations or to grab some coffee/ice cream/drinks with some fellow Broadway lovers!

Certainly feel free to PM me! (I understand not wanting to post where you are)

I don't live there, but I'm going to be there this weekend!

If you happen to see someone oogling John Wilkes Booth's diary, it's probably me. Ever since Assassins I've been fascinated with assassinations... hmmm.

And where the heck is Booth's diary!?

I'm actually IN DC.... it has its perks and drawbacks. I like being near everything and the energy--- but I really miss my car and just being able to drive to a Walmart or a friend's house.

I don't have a big network of friends here so I do a lot of wandering and museums on my own.

Just curious, my mother in law is NW. I find it funny that people in DC divide themselves in quadrants.

re: BWWers in DC

brdlwyr, is it really any weirder than all the neighborhood deliniations in NYC?

I'm from MoCo, MD and I'm back for the summer, but I really don't know any theater recommendations, unless it's at the Kennedy Center or a touring company.

skittlesl, neighborhood designations are normal. I am in Albany Park in Chi, but I do not say that I am NW.

re: BWWers in DC

I guess its just easier to say the quadrants because of the repetition in street names and numbers...plus, the Mall is such a central thing that describing areas by their direction from the mall makes things easier to visualize.

I hadnt ever really thought about it before...

Millie,

I used to live there and visit about twice a year. Love the city. Where in NW are you? I lived in Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan. There are several posters here from DC... I'm sure you'll hear from them soon...

re: BWWers in DC

Welcome back! There are @ 6 or 7 of us here in the DC Metro area. Most of us live in the Maryland suburbs. I'm in MoCo with Jwei and Orangeskittles.

A good guide to theatre in the area is Potomac Stages, available online. Check out the offerings at the new Strathmore Hall Center for the Performing Arts. While not a theatre, they've had some great performances (Linda Eder, Barbara Cook, Savion Glover, etc) at very reasonable prices and it's connected to the Grosvenor Metro station.

DD - DuPont and Adams Morgan are nice. I worked at 16th and P for a Summer in 1990.

re: BWWers in DC

Really? That's when I lived in the area... what was on 16th & P? That's apt. buildings and a church... now 17th & P is another story. re: BWWers in DC
