I wrote a song called Back In The 60s. There are always Broadway musicals being staged about the 60s. Will my song fit into the next one? Can some enterprising writer take my lyrics and write a book around them? I have more songs with this theme: http://www.jimcolyer.com/music/http://www.jimcolyer.com/music/
BACK IN THE 60S
The first kid in my school to have long hair
My mother cried and said, "you don't care!"
My father yelled and said, "You're a damn fool!"
I gave 'em a smile and said, "Be cool"
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s
My girl friend said she was on my side
Told her mamma I's the intellectual kind
Draft board said, "You're going to Vietnam!"
I flashed 'em a peace sign and said, "Stay calm!"
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s, I was young and strong
Had lots of women and the Top 40 songs
We had The Beatles and The Rolling Stones
Back In The 60s, you were never alone
Back In The 60s, I turned 21
Drove a Chevrolet and went looking for fun
Jane and Raquel up on the movie screen
Back In The 60s, we were diggin' the scene
July of '69, we walked on the moon
Crosby, Stills & Nash did a Woodstock tune
My fellow Americans, we had a heavy heart
Looking for a way to make a new start
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s
I finally got drafted and went to Germany
But I knew that girl would never wait for me
Tricky Dicky said things were perfectly clear
There won't be a Watergate for another 3 years

Jim Colyer
I;m not sure if I sung it with the music you wanted...lol...
I could possible write a book around it...
I have to make a story out of one quote for class...i thing i can do it for songs...
PM me....oh, i may have a few "edits" for your song...
woohoo! another jim colyer song! i thought i was gonna die if i didn't read more lyrics soon!!
Jim, this board is not a service for hooking up songwriters with Broadway shows. I've yet to see you discuss anything other than your music. Are you here to be part of this community or just to try to sell your songs?
*snap*
I finally got drafted and went to Germany
Why would you be sent to Germany in the '60s?
Vietnam would make more sense.
I stopped mid way down...
Oh, I didn't read the lyrics, but as I was scrolling down to read the responses I saw 'Germany' and did a double-take.
sticky, remember that we were involved in a larger conflict at that time of which vietnam was just one engagement: the cold war. even as people were dying in the jungles of southeast asia, europeans and americans were terrified that the russian (at that time soviet and through that the warsaw pact) bear would rouse itself from its slumber and roll across the whole of europe like a hungry lion amid a sea of hamstrung gazelles.
Please. I'm not even discussing those lyrics. But seeing these songs has made it clear why he's posting them on a message board instead of getting signed by a record label.
papa - what does that have to do with Germany though?
And my firends used to call my a commy...
and hahah rath
germany was at that time the front lines. you do reralize that there were two german countries at that time: west germany which was allied with the west and capitalism and democracy and east germany which allied itself with communism and totalitarianism. and it's -ie, ya damn commie!
I'd like to hear Papa and Rath do this song as a duet.
But it doesn't make sense in the song....
N/M
Forget the song, lol
Did I just hear you calling me, papa?
i love jim colyer! i love jim colyer! i love jim colyer! i love jim colyer!
it only doesn't make sense if you assume that every soldier drafted in the late 60's went to vietnam which is like assuming that every american soldier today is in either iraq or afghanistan.
....?
(to float)
papa...I'm talking about the randomness in the song...and the fact that the war was winding down somewhat during tricky dicky...
winding down? the year nixon was elected saw the highest number of casualties ever for america in vietnam followed by the next year which was the second highest.
Just so I'm clear - what we're discussing here is the date accuracy of the lyrics? Like that's the issue?

Jim, not every lyric has to be in rhyming couplets. But other than that, I'd say that's a solid piece of work, up with your best.
I hear a folk sound...a man and his guitar...Paul Simon...Bob Dylan...Tiny Tim...
But on a stage? In a musical? Um...where's the story?
