Backstreet's Back

I got the chance to catch the Backstreet Boys on tour last night and let me tell you, they were magnificent! I've always been a fan, but they are back at the top of their game. They sang several songs off the new album and they were great. Some poppy like the old stuff, but several with a more adult tone, including a great new song written by John Ondrasik of Five for Fighting which was wonderful. I doubt anyone will be able to get tickets (it's a small club tour and sold out everywhere) but look for the new album- I think it's going to be a winner.

I can honestly say that I used to be a huge Backstreet Boy fanatic. When I was 14, it was my dream to marry AJ and live in a huge mansion on Maui. Hehehe. I'm not ashamed to say it! I'm still a fan but stopped following them after they all got married and AJ had his alcohol problem. Man, how times change. Glad to hear that they are back, though.

They are coming here in like two weeks. I was soo tempted to go, and it was general admission which is awesome! But alas, I could not go due to this thing called a college education. I have a late class which I cannot skip. Anyways...It's good to hear that they are sounding great! I loved BSB!

AJ talked about his problems and noted that he'd been sober 3 1/2 years now. And they all a LOOKING good too. AJ was wearing some ripped up pants that showed a LOT of leg. I'm a Howie Man myself and he looked SPECTACULAR- even close up!

re: Backstreet's Back

I'm not sure if they are Marquise. . . I didn't even know Backsreet was coming back. Their songs are only good (for my purposes anyways, my tastes have expanded since I was 13) for me and my friends to act like jack asses on karaoke nights because we remember all the routines from when we were in 6th grade.

I have always thought that NSYNC and 98 Degrees were WAY better than them. I just didn't understand having 5 guys in a group and only a 2/3 part harmony.

re: Backstreet's Back

*NSYNC and 98º were definitely much better than Backstreet Boys, vocally. Their harmonies were tighter and more difficult. Backstreet Boys were painful to listen to acapella, but the other two groups sounded pretty good.

I love that they're coming out with new material. I have a legit excuse to run around acting like I'm 14 again! YAY!

*starts digging out old CD's* Amazingly, I was the sanest fan I knew.

re: Backstreet's Back

Gotta agree with Marquise on this one......ewwww. I was one of the few 13/14-year olds who hated them and almost all of hte boy bands and my friends would go on and on about them and I had to hear their music so much it made me sick.

Well, there is one boy band I liked...Hanson...but at least they wrote their own songs and played their own instruments, and I think they had a great harmony...and okay, I used to have a huge crush on Taylor and Zac. ::now runs and hides::

re: Backstreet's Back

Gosh, so many Backstreet haters-- who'd a thunk it?

Marlo, not sure about other cities but I know here in Chicago tickets for the show sold out in a matter of 2-3 minutes. Scalpers were selling tickets out front for $100 a piece. Granted, this was a small venue, but demand was high. If tickets are available in your town, buy them!

And Josua, I'd go see a sing off between those groups any time. I never saw 98 Degrees, but having heard both N*Sync & The B-Boys sing live a capella, there was no contest- The Boys sang rings around JT & Crew. In fact, the first time I heard the Boys sing, they were out to dinner and found out that a radio programmer was in the restaurant with a party for his daughter's birthday and they performed their own arrangement of "Happy Birthday" for her. As an encore, they performed one of their songs- with no microphones or studio trickery, live, impromptu, five feet away, they blew my mind.

Meanwhile, I heard N*Sync in an intimate launch for their first album and while not aurally objectionable they were no match for the Boys in terms of talent or professionalism.

As for the predicatble slam that they don't write their own material...I guess I just don't see that. Ethel Merman wasn't scorned because she was smart enough to have Gershwin & Porter write for her, don't understnad why a different standard applies here.

Anyway, for those who want to give them I try, I highly recommend it. The Album is due in June.

My friend Lisa is going crazy in anticipation for the BSB concert when it comes here. She's one of the few people I know that did not outgrow the boyband age. She also saw Aaron Carter when he was here last week.

"The Album is due in June."

I've been hearing early-mid July, but hey, the sooner the better.

I've had two songs, clips since early February, and just found two live songs *have yet to listen to* I LURVE them! Will SO be picking up this.

re: Backstreet's Back

I can honestly care less if they write their own songs since I love a lot of singers who never wrote a single note or lyric so I won't say anything negative about that. But, I remember when NSYNC did their own arrangement of the National Anthem (And rocked it, I might add) then Backstreet Boys did theirs either the next year or the year after (I am not really sure on the year).....let's just say it was HORRIBLE. I admit there were a couple of songs I liked from them but overall I think they are really weak compared to the other boy bands that were popular at the same time. I mean, Nsync rocked the accapella and have you heard 98 degree's "Ave Maria"? It is gorgeous. I still stick with my original statement that I don't understand having 5 guys in a group and only 2/3 part harmony.

re: Backstreet's Back

I bought the CD at midnight, and though I'm a long time fan, I could be bias, but the album is amazing. The harmonies are thicker than before and a lot of the songs sound more complex.

yay for the search feature re: Backstreet's Back

And Spider, I can't not respond to that comment...I was gonna try, but it's not happening. SO...

:::begin rant:::I saw NSYNC live...twice. Once from far away and I left the venue impressed...the next time from 2nd row dead center, and I saw that their lips weren't matching up...they were singing to a track. I hate them. :::end rant:::

re: Backstreet's Back

What cracks me up is that still have their little boy band dance routines. You would have thought or hoped they had grown up a bit but no, they're probably still humping floors to get the girlies all excited.

The other night I saw something on MTV when the interviewer referred to them as a boy band. Nick hit the roof and was whining about the fact that they are a 'vocal harmony group' and not a boy band. Maybe they should reconsider their dance routines if they want to be taken seriously... it looks a bit sad and desperate, doing 'air humping' at the age of 30-something.

re: Backstreet's Back

1) no.

2) the choreography is toned down- there's no floor humping.

3) why is it okay for shows to have choreography? you don't make fun of those people.
