I have two HORRIBLE habits:
I bite the inside of my lip, alot. And rip the skin off there,
And pick at my thumb skin on the side with my fingernails.
they are horrible habbits. I know
NOW WHATS YOURS
edct,
i do the same thing with my cheek (ie: biting ur lip)
i have no idea how many times i've been caught doing it..
when i'm nervous i play an invisible piano with my hands on anything, even if its air, my fingers will be flying around playing 'moonlight sonata'- its always that song too- i can't figure out why
I bite my fingers too...I'm getting better tho...
I'm also really bad about scratching my balls--I dunno...
I'm glad i saw this thread...
You guys, please STOP biting your lip, cheeks. I recently went for a cleaning at the dentist, and i had bitten the inside of my cheek while eating something. They asked if I did it regularly, which I don't, and then told me if it a habitual thing, it will turn into cancerous tissue! I was totally shocked and had no idea.
Anyway, one of my bad habits is rolling my eyes at people. At this point it's almost involuntary.
Classy lildogs
I compulsively apply Chapstick. It's not bad, it's just weird. And I chew on my pens.
Lots of ADHD habits, like fidgiting, pacing, etc.
orange- did you know Chapstick has an ingredient in it that actually dries out your lips? So it's no wonder you reapply so often.
Sounds like you guys need to up your meds.
orange...I use non-petroleum-based lip balms now and my lips are much better...I get it at the health food store--and it's the same price as Chap-Stick
As for my meds, that's another habit I'm working on...
Sorry, I used the brand name, but I just meant various lip balms (usually Burts Bees or Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer). And it's not that my lips are actually dry, it's just a nervous habit.
DefyingEDCT, I think it's because scar tissue forms.
I don't know the science behind how it turns into cancerous tissue, but I trust my dentist- he's a smart man.
Well, I suppose any open lacerations, especially in a bacteria-filled place like your mouth, would make the tissue more susceptible to infection, right?
orangeskittles, how do you find Burt's Bees? IS it worth the few bucks extra?
My bad habit is picking at my cuticles. Since I rock-climb, the climbing chalk dries out my fingers something terrible, and the cuticles peel and bleed often. My fingernail/tips are perpetually puffy.
Smoking, probably my worst....oh and sleeping around
Tiff, my school's bookstore sells Burt's Bees, so I haven't had a problem finding it. I know DSW sells lots of their products, and I think CVS is starting to carry at least the lip balm.
I think it's worth the extra money. I've tried an absurd number of different brands of lip balm, at all different price points, and I keep coming back to this. It's just the right consistency so that it doesn't melt in your purse on a warm day, but it's not so firm that you feel like you need a putty knife to get it on.
And the product itself is great as well. Unlike many other brands, I didn't NEED to reapply it as often, because it didn't end up drying them out after awhile. And the peppermint oils and beeswax make it smell very nice- many lip balms (especially the medicated ones) keep this chemical smell like hospitals right under your nose all day, and it really grosses me out.
Oh, by "how did you find Burt's..." I meant how did you like it.
It's fairly widely available up here too. Do you find that it suffocates your lips? I'm worried it'll have that thick, waxy texture to it and make my lips all mucky.
I don't really think it bothers me any more so than any other lip balm. It depends on how much you apply. It doesn't make a big waxy mess or anything, it just feels like you've put on any other lip balm. It takes like a minute to soak in, so I wouldn't recommend immediately kissing someone and expecting it not to come off, but it shouldn't effect you for too long.
And there's the added bonus of it feeling all tingly and cool.
Sometimes I fear I'm becoming quite OCD...
if I tie my shoes and one shoe is tied more tightly than the other, than I have to fix it so that they're equal. Dumb stuff like that. I can't eat two M&Ms of different colors in the same bite.
I was so hoping this was a thread about the Almodovar film...

I bite my nails (have for as long as I can remember), and my pens. I do find that using a nicer pen helps curb that one. I used to do an air piano thing, too (although it wasn't always the same song), but I haven't done that for several years. I grind my teeth, too (actually, it's more of a clenching), but that's not something I realize I'm doing until my jaw starts to hurt or I get a headache.
Orangeskittles--my sister-in-law does the lip-balm thing, too. And, like you, she says it's just a habit and not that she needs it.
By the way, I know that a lot of people like Burt's Bees, but I ended up being allergic to something in it, so it left my lips with this itchy-burny feeling.
I have the same bad lip habit, and I LOVE Burt's. Because it comes in COLORS. It softens my lips AND keeps up my lipstick reputation.
Ooo, I love those. I have 3 different shades of the lip shimmers.
"And I chew on my pens."
Umm, read quickly, I thought that said "I chew on my penis".
*retrieves mind from gutter*
Funny though, I chew on them too.
Err, pens that is.

Costume, I do the show tieing thing all the time. Well, I do have OCD.
I am always scratching the side of my middle finger with my thumb. I have blisters.
I always have to make things equal or even.
I not only still have my baby blanket, but I still use it. I won't tell you I am in college.
I do a bunch of other stuff too that I can't really think of now.
dear god i will try to kill that whole cheek biting thing pronto- :S
