Do you ever have a movie which you recognize as being utterly horrible and stupid but...you just can't bring yourself to NOT watch it?

My pick would be Baz Luhrmann's version of ROMEO AND JULIET (Or
"Romeo PLUS Juliet" as the emo kids call it). It's abominably stupid, badly acted piece of crap which, in all honesty, should not have been made in the first place (Drawing in teens to Shakespeare by giving them an MTV cut seizure inducer is an insult to their intelligence).

HOWEVER...

It might be the colorful, vibrant cinematography. Or perhaps the overall energy of the entire movie. Or perhaps the surrealism of seeing Shakespearean dialogue being spoken in modern day times. But whatever it is, I just cannot stop watching this. It entertains and repulses me at the same time.

Troop Beverly Hills.

Whenever it comes on the Disney channel, I'm sucked in against my will.

Ironically, Baz Lurhman's R & J I find unwatchable. I have tried a few times and I just can't do it. As far as bad movies I love to watch, my holy trinity are Deep Blue Sea (it's Jaws Indoors!), Bride Of Chucky and Showgirls.

I am not going to disagree that R&J (Baz style) has some awkward-almost atrocious- parts, but I will defend it in that it is beautiful to watch, extremely clever, and overall an consistent take on the tale. The fact that, for the most part, he was able to adapt the verse to the time, keep it pretty consistent, and actually make the use of Billy's text believable (in my eyes, at least), is enough for me to enjoy the movie sans guilt.

However, I find myself pausing when "New York Minute" comes on HBO, just because of how awful it is--it pains me to watch it, and yet, I want to see if there is any moment in which MK&A show acting talent in some form or another.

I also love Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. Actually, the title is William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet. But Baz Luhrmann is my favorite director, so I think visually, the movie is amazing. I'm also one of the weird people understands Shakespearean verse, so the dialogue doesn't even distract me.

Showgirls is the bad movie that you have to watch, at least once in your life. It's the best worst movie ever. But I can't stand to watch when it comes on TV, because the "edited for content" crap overshadows the campiness of the movie.

Most recently I got onto the Sleepaway Camp kick. I saw part one many years ago when i was a teen, and lately, they've been showing the sequel's on tv. After watching the second part, I couldn't wait to watch the third, knowing that it would be just as bad (actually it was worse - at least part 2 had the Estevez girl in it), although I do like Pamela Springsteen in these roles...and she has some pretty god lines in part 2 with the girl and the Latrine.
I was even contemplating getting the box set which has Sleepaway Camp part 4...but, only if i can get it at a cheap price.

I LOVE Troop Beverly Hills!

I love when the girls are upset that they didn't win the merit badge, and Shelley Long says to them:

My pick is Crossroads...Britney is awful, and the whole story is so stupid, but I can't turn away!! It's terrible.

For the record, I LOVE Romeo + Juliet, because Leonardo and Claire are brilliant.

WHEN??? I must have missed that scene. Zeffirelli is the way to go.

As for the topic at hand......XANADU!!!!

Not quite the question, but though I can't think of a movie right off my head, I can think of TV shows.

Namely those MTV "dating" shows: Room Raiders, Next and Date My Mom. They're so bad and stupid but they crack me up, and my friend always makes me watch them when I'm at her house and it's become kinda addicting.

Am I the only one who thinks the only thing bad about Xanadu was the acting? I actually love that film...probably because it has to do with Mythology

VALENTINO ... it is bad bad bad ... but it is one of my favorite movies to watch, and i was thrilled when it came out on videotape, and i have watched it over and over and over ... especially the scenes in which RUDOLPH NUREYEV gets naked ... what could be better? (i mean worse!) now if it would JUST come out on DVD ...

not as good (meaning far worse) is VALENTINO's cousin film NIJINSKY. but i still love watching the dance recreations with GEORGE DE LA PENA ... and seeing ALAN BATES (as diaghilev) go ga-ga over him. LESLIE BROWNE is simply terrible in this movie. she was "ok" in THE TURNING POINT becasue she danced. but her "dramatic" performance in NIJINSKY put a stop to her film career REAL fast.

AHH! I love bad 80s/early 90s movies.

Don't Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead, so good! Gotta love a young Christina Applegate.

Justice - There are a few bad things about Xanadu, but more good things. I think it's ripe for a remake. I would love to see what Baz Luhrmann could do for that film. My only requirement is that it MUST contain the original songs. You can't have that movie without I'm Alive, Dancin', Suspended in Time and the title song. Heaven, I tell you, HEAVEN!!

PS - I also always have to watch Flash Gordon if it's on.

Show Girls = Brilliant.
I never saw the film Valentino but I certainly loved me some Rudy naked. Beautiful, beautiful skin and a butt to rival the best of all time.
Also love me some George de la Pena, and he's still HOT. I like Nijinsky - the film. Carla Fracci, Janet Suzman, recreations of Diaghilev Monte Carlo.

Has anyone seen My Best Friend is a Vampire? I was on a bit of a Robert Sean Leonard kick last year, so I when I saw that this was on HBO I figured I'd give it a go. My god, it was hideously bad! But I could not stop watching it! It was too funny to see a 16 year-old RSL in a silly 80s, teen Vampire flick. It was such an amusing train wreck that I had to watch it again a week or so later (gotta love how HBO totally overplays movies like that). Funny, funny stuff!
