Posted: 1/13/06 at 1:52amOnce again Jrb is a broken record and along with Emcee do not comment on ANYTHING i've posted about with the exception of what THEY want to see. Hey Jrb stop posting here if you're so tired of repeating yourself, you know what so are we. And yet niether one has responded to anything I've said about queer cinema and queer cinema history. So if you want to talk about immaturity you BOTH attacked MY original post, this was started by the two of you. I have responded with clear, thought out responses that you choose to ignore. Other posters here have also stated that this film did not stand on a soapbox screaming about socio-political issues. And Emcee you had a hissy freak for someone asking why Rent was based in 1989. Take a Xanax you need one badly.

Dude, I have studied and observed gay films and theatre. If you can't see what a huge success this film is across the country, that's too bad. It's reaching closeted gays who need this story. It's reaching straight America who needs this story and walk into voting booths. As was already stated in exhaustive detail, I don't think this film is going to make explosive change, but I think it will cause an effect on the social landscape the way another mainstream, Oscar film did--Philadelphia.
Because we can examine the films of Araki and Haynes, but unfortunately they aren't being given major Oscar attention and they aren't huge at the box office.

Again, your personal problems with me have not a thing to do with the MOVIE. Nor does Brokeback Mountain have anything to do with Rent. Christ, drop it already.
I have absolutely addressed the things you brought up. Rather, I think the trouble is that I haven't given you the answer you want -- I don't agree with you. Since when is a response that states an opposing opinion an "attack?" jrb and I both presented the viewpoint opposite of yours, and you think we attacked you? Not so, dude. I'm sorry that we disagree, but neither of us were belligerent toward you. We're not even allowed to disagree now? Good God!
I think YOU need the Xanax. I'm totally relaxed, though it WOULD be nice to be able to *maturely* discuss a work of art without having my wrists slapped about completely irrelevant issues.
You're not going to get me to change my mind, and while I don't know that I should speak for jerby, probably not his, either. Perhaps, though you seem like you have some need to prove that you're correct and would like us to back down, it's best for us all to agree to disagree, before this gets even uglier than it already is. It's not even discussion about the film anymore; it's childish banter.

Incidentally, too much Xanax could lead to barebacking. Safety matters, kids!

BW -- how and why the movie is or isn't political, historical relevance, how Jack and Ennis label (or don't label) themselves, and... oh, my need for drugs.

Posted: 1/13/06 at 2:09amJrb if you think Philadelphia had an effect on the social landscape than you are obviously more ignorant than i originally thought you were. Philadelphia sent the Gay Rights movement back 50 years and was a serious INSULT to anyone with HIV or AIDS. I am quite aware of the critical and box office success of this film, but you say it's reached closeted gays, its reached straight America, DUDE it's only playing in 280 theatres, far cry from the usual 2500 to 3000 most films get. Araki and Haynes (which by the way Haynes has gotten Oscar attention) not being big at the box office somehow destroys their message? And if you think Brokeback is going to change the social landscape of this country you haven't lived for very long cos it's like say F. 911 changed the landscape of this country but look who is still president. And No Michael Moore's movie which I loved still resulted in this country being divided.

Now I have to eat you, Kringas, because you're being mean to me and I'm belligerent and evil.
ETA -- as far as Brokeback's box office is concerned, it's on a rolling-expansion release. Marketing tactic.

Posted: 1/13/06 at 2:40amHi Emcee, remember me, it's Ajay, i've changed email addy's so got a new screenname here. I've always loved your posts because you write so eloquently and tell what you feel. I have to say that you've made good points but so has Badreligion. Jrb just seems to repeat himself, but hey if thats all he has to say then I don't see why he has to post, just my opinion. The fighting is another thing. Sometimes I wonder about what I read about AP about people being viscious kids on here. I've read this thread and it started as a joke, people will always have different views when it comes to movies like these and we should accept them all. I personally don't think this is anywhere near a political movie considering gay movies of the past but again my opinion.

I'm sorry, baby, I will check out the blog soon!
I just had some mindblowing, openly gay sex, which is possible thanks to being openly gay in the greatest city in the world. Sure glad I'm not living in a conservative community or rural area where I would have to hide the fact that I was just having mindblowing, openly gay sex. Nice to know I can do it at my apt and not on a mountain! Also glad to know that I can date this guy openly without too much fear since I'm not in a city under a population of 20,000. Sure, I can't get married, and I could get beaten up, but that's ok. I have had a blessed, lucky life so far. Wouldn't if I had stayed in Alvin, TX where two men living together is frowned upon. OMG Can you believe that? It's 2006, y'all! Oh well. Thankfully God invented NYC, and I'm not black, Greek, hispanic or a conservative Jew! Or a Republican.

Posted: 1/13/06 at 2:43amOMG--I'm so like starting multiple personalities right now with my various free email accounts! Maybe if I can create an army of people who agree with me, I'll win my argument but without actually saying anything substantial and with plenty of insults! Yea!!
