In case you didn't read the story, it's being turned into a Century 21, not a DR.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

Every booklover I know who has held one has fallen in love with it, except one.

There's just such a feeling of...I don't know...peace browsing shelves and leafing through books. Especially at the B&N where there's just more of a vibe than at Borders or that clusterf**k Strand. I'll miss it.

I don't know, maybe it's psychological, but every time I start browsing through a bookstore I end up needing to use the bathroom.

OMG!!! Me too! Totally need to take a poop when I visit a bookstore. You just don't get a good BM with the Kindle.

So, if brick-and-mortars are going the way of the dinosaurs, what's to become of libraries (which are my version of churches)? They do more than warehouse printed materials.

The recession is actually boosting library attendance and use. The bigger problem is the effect of spending cuts on library systems.

Libraries now lend ebooks too.

"The recession is actually boosting library attendance and use"

Well, now there's a silver lining Barnes and Noble near Lincoln Center to close in January.

Whatever our city is or isn't, they DID spend a fair chunk of change to put in a brand new cultural center five years ago, which included a beautiful new library (and 100,000 new volumes!) It gets used a LOT by the community.
