Bars in the Village...?

Hey all...I'm looking for suggestions for gay/ piano bars in or around GVillage...I'm looking to get out and meet more people...but i'm not great at doing it alone...so if anyone can name any friendly bars - that would be great!

You must, must, MUST go to Marie's Crisis. You must.
Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you. Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.

Rose's Turn is another fun one. Right next door to Marie's Crisis.

jailyard, the reason Marie is having a crisis is because she's a claustrophobic, dungeon-like piano bar! The crowd is friendly, true, but that place gives me the willies.

but, darling, one can have so much FUN in a dimly-lit dungeon. *evil grin* I've met all of my most memorable gentleman callers in Marie's. (And how much do we love the pianistic stylings of the ever-bizarre but always-fabulous Jim Allen, fairy grandmother to us all?)

Most definitely Marie's Crisis. If it were a few years ago, I'd say also hit Eighty-Eight's, for the dykey song-stylings for Karen Miller and Rochelle Selden, but alas, it has gone with the wind.

HINT: You'll attract more attention with the boys if you:

1. know lyrics to songs and sing in the key that is being played;
2. don't get obnoxiously drunk;
3. tip generously;
4. have killer pecs.

I used to practically *live* there. Last summer, there was a period where I was there *every single night* for 31 days.

Wow. I just admitted that publicly.

re: Bars in the Village...?

Don't feel bad. Back in the day I was a big ol' regular there as well. The pianists at the time were good friends of mine, Jack Mezzano and Rick Page. This was back when it was a big ol' smoke cloud down in that basement. I was in the city earlier this year and went back for ol' times sake, and it was odd. No smoke, of course, and also the feel of the crowd had changed. Or perhaps I just grew up, I dunno. I kept expecting Albert to show up and break into his glass-breaking falsetto rendition of "One More Kiss".

Tried Marie's Crisis. It was okay. Felt a bit odd going by myself. People seemed okay...and all came in groups...

I have a feeling that our BWW outing will happen just as soon as Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction are found. I hope i am wrong!

re: Bars in the Village...?

interesting no one mentioned THe Monster...perhaps it's Andy the piano player who know only how to BANG LOUDLY and the tired crew sho live at the piano and scream out of tune -- my "favorite" (he says with disgust -- is Jill, the Patti LuPone "wanna-be" my friends and I call her "Shrill Jill" -- it's tht bad!

But the bar can be fun and they make a STRONG (i.e 99% booze, 1% mixer) cocktail...
