hot on the heels of the trailer (which although gorgeous to watch, left me uninspired) comes the stunning theatrical poster.
Enjoy!

It's striking, but it may give off the wrong impression that it's another Disney/Pixar collaboration. It looks 3D-ish.
ETA: Oh, and I still hate the title!

Disney is getting back to all the soft images they use to do for their posters in the 90's and I love it.

I'm looking forward to this one and the next one:

I wouldn't call the PatF poster a "soft image."
Hear, hear, Actr! I was disappointed when Menken dropped out and Newman stepped in. I think everything he does sounds the same, and I'm not a fan of his "jumpy" style.

I LOVE the Family Guy parody. And heck YES to Menken's "Rapunzel" starring La Chenoweth!

Wow, this looks better and better with every new image released.
Add me to the list of those looking forward to Rapunzel with Chenoweth, though I do wish it were 2D animated.

Posted: 5/11/09 at 8:07pmThe racist backlash already started MM. They had to change a character's speech pattern b/c it was causing issues.

Posted: 5/11/09 at 8:20pmDidn't they also change Princess Tiana's name? It was originally something else.
#11re: Beautiful poster for Princess and the Frog
Posted: 5/11/09 at 8:30pmShe was originally named Maddy, but people protested that it sounded too much like a slave name. Also, she was to be a chambermaid, but there was an outcry over that, too. Meanwhile, according to the review link taz posted in the other thread, Tiana's rich white friend and her family are presented as "spoiled and stupid and Tiana's family is wise, loving and hard working."

Posted: 5/11/09 at 8:57pmThe art style looks distinctly Disney to me - I really doubt anyone's going to mistake that movie for a Pixar production just because the poster has some depth of field.

Posted: 5/11/09 at 9:35pmI guess I sort of get why they changed her name, but seriously almost all the Disney Princesses seem to be chambermaids or otherwise socially or economically downtrodden...lol

Here's a link to back up my previous comment. To me it's much ado about nothing.
The prince is voiced by a white actor but I don't see a problem with that. Scott Weinger, who voiced Aladdin, isn't of Arabian descent and no one complained about him that I can recall.

Posted: 5/12/09 at 1:26amThere will always be someone looking to complain about something, it's inevitable and besides, no matter what they do it'll never be offensive as Song of the South, right? :)

I like the poster, but it kind of reminds me of Peter Pan... the alligator is almost identical and the guy resembles Captain Hook. I don't think the animation will be too much like Pixar, at least I hope not.
Either way, I'm excited to see it.

"There will always be someone looking to complain about something."
There's never been a Disney princess with blue eyes and brown hair! Where's MY representation?
I think I've posted before that people used to get really angry at me when I worked for Disney because there was no black princess. As if I planned everything. I'm really happy that she's finally here.

"colored"? The Caucasian, Asian, Middle Eastern and Native American women lacked color?
I wonder Walt Disney was racist?
Or, you could think about it.

Disney has definitely had problems with its racial depictions both in the distant (Der Feurher's Face) and not-so-distant (Aladdin) past. At least with this movie they made time to assess their initial ideas and listened to people's objections.
That said, I don't really care when voice actors aren't the same race as the characters they're depicting. What counts in characterization is what you see and hear onscreen. I'm all for diversity in hiring, and I am troubled when white actors are asked to imitate the accents of non-white people, but a racial matching approach in voiceover work is just ludicrous.
So Mufasa can be James Earl Jones and Simba can be Jonathan Taylor Thomas and it's all good as far as I'm concerned. What's not good is protagonists Aladdin and Jasmine having paler skin and more American accents than villain Jafar and his cronies, who have Arab(ish) accents and features instead. I hope Disney's people watched themselves more closely this time around.

Well, technically Prince Naveen is Brazilian, as is the actor voicing the role, Bruno Campos, so he at least falls into the ethnic category of not being strictly "white"
