When it comes to dark comedies, I firmly believe that this one is in a class all by itself. It's imaginative, hilarious, and twisted in a way that it has to be the work of Tim Burton.

An awesome cast (Michael Keaton and Sylvia Sidney are the standouts, imho), stunning production design, Oscar-winning makeup effects, and a now-classic score by Danny Elfman (which, also, was not nominated).

Any thoughts?

So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.~Office Space

re: Beetlejuice (1988)

my fav two lines from the movie....

Delia: I will live with you in this hellhole, but I must express myself. If you don't let me gut out this house and make it my own, I will go insane and I will take you with me!

Adam: What are your qualifications?
Betelgeuse: Ah. Well... I attended Juilliard... I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school. I travel quite extensively. I lived through the Black Plague and had a pretty good time during that. I've seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK?!? You think I'm qualified?

Some of my favorite lines...

Football Player: Hey... coach?
Juno: What?
Football Player: I don't think we survived that crash...
Juno: How did you guess?

Lydia: You can't scare her, she's sleeping with Prince Valium tonight.

Otho: Don't mind her. She's still upset because somebody dropped a house on her sister.

Juno: It obviously doesn't do any good to pull your heads off in front of people if they can't see you.

Betelgeuse: Nice ****in' model! (honk honk) Note: I still can't believe that kept that in a PG-rated movie.

Delia: Open this door you dead people or we'll bust it down and drag you out by the ropes you hanged yourselves with!
Lydia: They didn't commit suicide!

I remember as a kid, I watched the animated series on Nick. Good stuff.

I remember the Nick show! I really liked it, but I was so disappointed that Barbara and Adam weren't characters. Oh, well...

Why is the title spelled BEETLEJUICE when his name is Betelgeuse?

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia

StageManager-

I think his name, regardless of spelling, is pronounded "Beetle Juice", which is why he uses those two words when playing charades with Lydia. When Adam first reads his ad, he mispronounces it as "Beetle Guise".

Beetlegeuse: Yes, that's it!
Lydia: Your name's Beetle Juice?
Beetleheuse: AH! You said it twice. Just say it once more, come on!
Lydia: It was you, wasn't it?
Beetlegeuse: Me?
Lydia: The snake.
Beetlegeuse: What snake? Are you kidding, it's your imagination. Just SAY IT! Updated On: 6/15/06 at 01:01 PM
