Fascinating! Thanks for posting these.

Obviously McCambridge adds immeasurably, but seeing the pre-dubbed footage increases my regard for Linda Blair's performance. It's not just the scary voice that's scary. She's really acting it well, I think.

Exactly, Reginald. McCambridge's voice would not have been nearly as disturbing without Blair's physicality. In essence Linda Blair gave McCambridge the perfect canvas to work on.

The clips of Blair's own voice just prove how masterfully Friedkin was able to put all these elements together to make the landmark film we know.

Love Mercedes McCambridge. She just has a voice that stays with you- even before her voice role of The Demon.

My favorite 'before the voice' was David Prowse having to recite dialogue as Darth Vader before they got James Earl Jones. It sounds a bit like Dark Helmet plus Tommy Wiseau.
