WAIT! It's so not worth it.. especially to jeopardize your relationship with your mom (trust issues). There are probably so many cool things that you are going to want to do between now and the time you are 18- I'm sure your mom will always bring this up to remind you of why you are not allowed to do something. Just my $0.02... I had mine pierced when I was 23 and my mom was not happy then, but had no choice but to accept it. It's very painful when it is first done and I won't even type about the pain when it gets caught on things or infected!
Edited- not painful while it is done, but after... just every time I leaned over and my clothes kept getting caught on it, etc.

I just wanted to interject that I had mine pierced this morning with my best friend and it was one of the most painless and actually, enjoyable experiences I've ever had. We've decided it definitely hurt more to pierce our ears than our belly buttons.
On the advice of my mother (of all people) we went to a place the next town over where my older brother had his tongue pierced and he and his best friend had their tattoos done. The woman who did our belly buttons has been doing this for 13 years and is also a registered nurse. All I felt was a bit of pressure as the needle was going through and it hasnt hurt since. No bleeding either on my part, though my best friend had a little bit.
Long story not so short, go get it done by a trained professional.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
Bernadette,
I am 16, and had my navel pierced about 3 months ago. I went to a trained professional. W/e you do, DO NOT let your friend do it. She is used to using a piercing gun, not a gauge needle. It is very different. Also, mine did not hurt while getting it done, just a bit after. Mine hasn't gotten infected at all either.
FYI, your navel would not be healed by august. It takes over a year for a navel piercing to fully heal, and if you are to try to change the jewel before it is healed you are at more risk for an infection, and will tear the skin--seeing as the piercing heals from inside out. If you tear the skin you have pretty much f-ed up your whole piercing n' all the pain you may go through. Either wait, or find a professional that will do it w/out parental consent--n' be ready to take the lectured from your mother when she may find out in August.
Don't be fooled, I completely love mine!!

So glad I talked to you guys...I still REALLY want it though. I got the kit today, and I agree about not letting my friend do it. My friend's mom is a RN and has done navel piercings many times before, she said she would do it, but I needed the permission of my mom first. I don't know of anywhere in my town that wouldn't do it without parental consent. I know it's a law you have to get your parents to sign off on you in the state of VA, so I don't think there are many places out there that would take that sort of a risk. For now, I think I have to think about it some more! Thanks guys!

Just weigh the consequences of going behind your mom's back against the benefits of having a pierced navel. Whatever wins, wins.
hmmmm....sounds fishy
I wouldn't let your friend do it! Just wait two more years & get it done by a professional.
P.S. belly button piercings are over don't ya think?
bernadette, where in VA are you? Virginia Beach has a lot of places where they don't check age when they pierce things. I got my 2nd holes in my ears done when I was 14 there, and they didn't even care about my age. And yes, it was done by a professional, and it was totally safe and sanitary.

I am in the south west part of VA in Roanoke...We don't even have that many tatoo or piercing parlor's...
Wouldn't it make more sense to have your friends mom just sign off as your parent? That's what I did--lol. However, I still had my mothers permission--she's just a drunk n' too lazy to take me to the parlor herself so she got my friend to do it. Just tell them that she got remarried after a divorce which would explain why your licenses are different--name wise. Worked here. N' this place is really strict.
if you go to a place to do it that will not ask for your parents signicher WATCH OUT!! thoes places ARE SHADY and YOU CAN get STDs ask for a new nedal and watch him take it out of the package,if your not satisfide walk out.you can also bring your own neadal from the kit to one of thoes plases.DO NOT GET A STD!!!!!!!!!

Liam, dear......we need to talk. You cannot get an STD from a belly button piercing. STD is a sexually transmitted disease such as gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes or chylamidia . You can only get an STD from a belly button piercing if you have unprotected sex while having the piercing done. You may get an infection such as heptatitis or tetanus if proper sterile technique is not used. I know this Liam because I worked in an STD clinic for several years.
you can get STDs from blode to blode contact.
Hon, I think you mean AIDS.

When did STD and AIDS become synonymous? I'm so confused!
When middle and high school health course curricula decided they weren't going to teach properly, DP.

Is that what Liam is learning in school? I truly fear for this generation!
well, AIDS *IS* an STD, although obviously you can get it other ways too.

Like using a dirty toilet seat, right?
Well, if you have an open sore on your bum, and there's blood on the toilet seat...blah, that's too graphic, nevermind. You can get AIDS anytime body fluid comes in contact, like dirty needles, or a baby can get HIV from its mother.
*i* heard you can get it from toilet paper, or from sweat! that's why i go to a no-gays gym. just saying what i heard on the news... i mean, if a politican said it, it can't be a lie.
No, toilet paper and sweat can't carry the virus! It's actually fairly hard to get HIV, it's a fragile virus that can't survive well outside the human body.
well then you need to talk to the guy that george step-o-nofulus interviewed, cuz he said differently...
What guy? *is getting confused*
