What were your favorite books as a child - for me no one can top Roald Dahl. His books are some of the best books ever!
The Witches must be my favorite though - truly magical.

Dr. Seuss, hands down. Even now, I love reading his books to all the kids I babysit. He's awesome.

Wow that sounded so weird.

Lewis - The Narnia books were magical and still my favorites. I'm looking forward to the new screen adaptation of "The Lion, the witch and the Wardrobe".

For me, Seuss is in a class by himself.

Baum ranks way up there., as does Alcott.

Rowling is certainly my current fave.

for me, nothing beats J.M. Barrie's original novel of Peter Pan. I ADORE that book. Dahl is also in a class of his own. also, K.A. Applegate's Animorph series was a loong obsession for me =)

I was obsessed with K.A.Applegate's "EVERWORLD" series. I read all of those books at least 10 times each. Something was really appealing about those books (maybe because I was in my mythology phase at the time I read them). Also, RENT was mentioned, so how could I NOT like them?

Dick King-Smith is my favorite. He has written a series of books about animals, including Babe, the Very Important Pig. His books are enjoyable for both children and adults alike.

when I was a lad, I enjoyed the Dahl and Silverstein the most. I also had a strong affinity for Louis Sacchar, Lloyd Alexander, and the "Great Brain" series by John Fitzgerald.

I was too old for Seuss by the time I moved to the U.S., so the children's authors I loved were Beverly Cleary, Chris van Allsburg for his magnificent illustrations, Roald Dahl (though The Witches scared the crap out of me), Astrid Lindgren, Shel Silverstein, Marguerite Henry (who made me a total horse freak), Laura Ingalls Wilder, Norton Juster, E.L. Konigsburg, and Wilson Rawls. I'm probably forgetting many others; I was always reading as a child.

Dude. Dr. Seuss is my homeboy. I love him with all of my soul. Definately Silverstein, and although I can't remember his name, the person who wrote CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS.
