The other day I happened to do a very stupid thing whilst cooking and I burnt my thumb very badly. It happened three days ago and my finger still hurts like hell. It's not a first-degree burn or anything--I had a professional check it out--but it still hurts pretty bad. Does anyone know any good burn remedies or things to put on it that would make it heal faster and/or stop the pain?

Do you have an aloe vera plant in your house?
By the way, if you had a professional check it out to make sure it wasnt serious, why didnt they tell you what to do for it?
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
I'm no doctor, but I can congratulate you for your effective use of "whilst."
The professional checked it out but recommended nothing for the pain?
I hear amputation will stop the throbbing.
Bactine. Spray Bactine on the burn; it's wonderful.
Bwaysinger, sad thing is, there was a point on Tuesday night when I had been sititng in my bathroom running cold water over it for two hours and I was still crying from the pain that I actually considered just amputating it...
My uncle, who is a fireman, checked it out just to make sure it wasn't serious enough that I should go to an emergency room for it. I tried using some aloe ou of a bottle but it was pretty messy and worked temporarily, and I couldn't do anything while it was on there. Besides, it blistered, then popped and now it's just open...it hurts really terribly, actually.
I would definitely take some Ibuprofen and see if that helps. Just no more than 3 at a time. That and ice usually help with my little kitchen mishaps.

Please tell me that was a joke. Imagine people that have first-degree burns over the majority of their body!
Since your uncle is a fireman, why don't you ask him about a remedy?
Yeah, don't worry, I was exaggerating.
My uncle suggested the aloe, which I used, and which didn't work terribly well.
Boo-boos are God's way of saying, "You stupid idiot, what did you do that for?" Live and learn. I am sure it will heal in time for your next trauma.

Though you deserve complete rejection for writing the phrase "whilst cooking," you have AT LEAST a first degree burn. These phrases you toss around, they have MEANING.
Second, what is it with people who think BWW is a good source of medical advice. Do you not have Google?
