Bewitched does well at the Box Office (Not a flop)!

Bewitched is #2 at the Box Office, with 20 million made.

Most certainly not the flop people were expecting. This is actually quite good for opening weekend figures.

I really only want to see this movie for Shirley, Carole, and Kristin.

I'm glad it didn't flop - despite what the critics said.

Still it was going against Batman, and Mrs and Mrs Smith, both hot hits - even though they already opened.

If it opened at #2 and made 20 million in one weekend, than that is a pretty good sign it's not going to flop.

Monster in Law was another example of this. People thought it would flop, and turned out to be a money making hit.

Batman and Mr. and Mrs. Smith are both action movies past their initial weeks. Also, they're not exactly aiming at the same audience as a Nora Ephron movie.

I'm just saying it's not such a shock, given the fact that theaters are filled with movies aimed at kids and young men, that Bewitched managed to come in at a respectable #2.

That's an ok but not stellar opening but we'll see how it holds up next week.

Then you have the publicity and other non-production related costs.

If it has an $80 million dollar budget, a $20 million dollar opening is not especially strong, especially in the meat of summer movie season where most movies have one strong weekend and then fall off significantly.

Most first weekend box office goes to the theaters (I think they get 75% of that pull.) Movies that last in theaters longer end up making a lot more money for their studios than movies that have one big weekend then crash and burn.

If 'Bewitched' can linger around all summer doing decent box office it might be ok but, really, at this point I think it's going to be forgotten.

Sorry gang, looks like a flop, smells like a flop ...
