I was talking to my friend about this movie, and how great it was. I personally liked it because it had Ewan, Jessica Lange, Billy Crudup AND Albert Finney in it. Plus I've seen many Tim Burton movies and enjoyed them. Eccentricly weird, but very good.
But you know those Chinese or Vietnamese twins? Were they Siamese or not? I've seen the movie loads of times since I own it and all, and I always get weridly confused!
I don't think they are.
At the end, there is a brief shot of them not together.
I think that is one of the exagerations.
They are clearly not conjoined twins. In the 'real' world (during the funeral) you first see them what appears to be together, and then one of them walks away. Later you see them again, each in a different group of people.
One of my favorite movies.
I, too, love Tim Burton films. Ed Wood is my favorite.
Ed Wood was Tim Burton one? How did I not know that?
Okay thank you all.
The way I see it, you can't go wrong if you have Ewan McGregor, Jessica Lange, and Albert Finney in a movie. Throw in Billy Crudup and you're good to go!
Albert Finney is so amazing.
The only bad part was seeing DeVito's part.
"Albert Finney is so amazing."
He really REALLY is!
Thernadier, you didn't like DeVito's part?
I didn't like seeing his backside...no.
I meant "part."
Especially sitting so close at the big screen.
So, everyone. What was your favorite tale?
I love this movie. I saw it in the cinema with my father, and it was that much more powerful.

The point of the movie is that the father told all those tall tales and exaggerated many things. In the father's tall tales, the twins were Siamese, because that made the tale more exciting. But at the funeral, the son realizes that it was just another exaggeration.
what a wonderful movie, i loved it

Did the father really exaggerate, or did the son's young mind envision it? The father said he met a giant. In the son's mind, the giant was 20 feet tall. In real life, he was almost 8 feet tall.
The father said he met a pair of Asian twin singers who were "inseparable - joined at the hip" . He could have been talking figuratively, and in the little boy's mind, they bacme "Siamese Twins".

jon has put the point into words perfectly.
Ahh, the scene with Ewan in a feild of Daffodills (sp?) is BEAUTIFUL!! I adore this movie so much!
Was I the only one disappointed in this film? I was really looking forward to it, but I found it lacking in emotional levels. It was just too sweet and cutesy. Like Sleepy Hollow, I thought it was a bit one-note. I got tired of the cutesy stories and was waiting for the conflict, but it never seemed to surface.
*SPOILERS*
My father told tall tales. They were cute, but were they true? He's dead and I see he was loved and there was a little truth in his tales so now I love him. The end.
That's about all I got out of it.
And Sleepy Hollow was about fog. Otherwise, I love Burton's films. I liked Planet of the Apes much more than either of those.

I believe the exaggerations were in the father's mind. I think that Jessica Lange has a line that mentions it.
MisterMatt, I was disappointed in the film as well. More specifically, I don't think Billy Crudup can act.

I've wanted to see this movie since it came out in theaters, but I have yet to do so... Hm, this weekend is looking free for me...

The joke is this: They're from Siam, but not conjoined. So technically, yes, they are Siamese....
And yes, one of my favorite movies.
I loved Steve Buscemi "The Poet" and the town of Spectre, It was creepy and intriguing, as well as the concept that he arrived too early...
"Was I the only one disappointed in this film?"
No, I was disappointed by it too. It struck me as more of a tour of Tim Burton's imagination than a well-paced film with scenes that were essential to the resolution, whatever that was...

I'm sure there are reactions all over the scale. I, for one, thought it was wonderful.
And just for the record, I thought his PLANET OF THE APES was so bad as to be offensive.
I thought this movie was great, and I love Tim Burton. Can't wait for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride!

For my taste, his masterpiece will always be EDWARD SISSORHANDS - unless, of course, he comes up with something better in the future
