if one reads the books, the writing is on the wall re: this character for a very long time. they never gets anything written from their point of view. this otherwise wouldn't be a problem, but one has to assume that if they were to assume the mantle of a hero central character, they would get their own point of view.
I had long heard that "the Red Wedding" would be a pivotal, absolute game-changing scene, and then kind of forgot about it happening. Then it did. Then it kept happening. Then it happened some more. And all that, in such a quick moment… Just a shocking, bloody, remarkable sequence.

there is a significant difference from the books. one can only assume that it won't eventuate in anything (in terms of the book), as i don't think they did anything without martin's blessing.
I can't wait to see it!
There is only one episode left, correct? I wonder if they will cover the next big pivotal thing this season or save it for next. It's pretty much my favorite thing that happened in the books.
As for the character that had a much different outcome in the series, in the books, we were left thinking that person was basically on the way to their death. I think it's safe to now assume that we've seen the last of that one.
That was a bit more graphic than I was expecting, especially the added death.
I am also rather disappointed that Daario Naharis is more of a romance novel cover boy than the blue bearded, flamboyant dude he was in the books.

This. Very much so.
Otherwise, a great episode. Even knowing what was coming, it was a shock. And the smaller scale made the awfulness that much more intimate.
I watched last night after skipping several episodes. Tell me, is Tyrion still alive?
Yes, Tyrion is still alive and is now married to Sansa Stark.
Jersey Girl -- I don't think they'll cover what you're talking about next week (if it's what I think it is). I'm guessing that's going to wait till the beginning of next season...though with this show, who knows.
Thanks Jason. Yeah, I remember them saying that he would have to marry her.
Holy crap that was horrifying. I have not read the books so I didn't see that coming. I need these images out of me head. And the very, very last moment? damn..
Watching people who did know about the Red Wedding ahead of time freak out today has been my favorite thing ever.
There are apparently reactions all over YouTube. It's like 2Girls1Cup with less vomiting.

The Genius of THE ONION:
Oh S**t, I Totally Forgot That Happens!
By George R.R. Martin
As the author of the popular Song Of Ice And Fire series of fantasy novels, it has been a pleasure and a joy to watch Game Of Thrones, HBO’s riveting television adaptation of my work. Every week, the show delights viewers, myself included, with a series of stirring performances, deftly maneuvered feats of visual storytelling, and eye-popping special effects. It truly is a joy to watch my novels—my life’s work—come to life on the screen, rendered with tact, faithfulness, and considerable filmmaking skill.
Read the rest here, there's a very funny punchline...
Anyone else find this to be the most sadistic show on TV? I've been a horror/fantasy fan since I could walk and I couldn't make it past the first season.
The books are pretty dismal - there is not much sustained joy for any character. You read, and everyone you root for (except for a couple) end up dead.
The TV show is generally faithful to the source material.

I've read all five books. I HOPE that at least one of the characters I love survives and is happy at the end (by which I mean pick from: Arya, Dany, Jon Snow, Tyrion, and Jamie). I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed.

well, at least one of the deaths was purely for shock value, which was unnecessary, given the nature of the events.
it also might spoil the books, which, if true, is a little sloppy, imo. it would also be very uncharacteristic of tywin (who orchestrated the whole thing). he did have a distaste for elia's fate, and it would seem unusual for him to let that happen twice. further, he would have had great use for an "heir apparent."
I'm assuming they didn't spoil the book -- I can't imagine they would have let that death happen if it mattered...
I think the last time we heard mention of that character and the assumption that that person was headed to their death was apparently accurate.
