When do you think I can get the best deal on a Canon? Which website, B & H Photo, Best Buy, or other?
Doesn't have to be fancy, just good. Any suggestion for under 90.00?
Something like this, perhaps? Wait until Monday??

(Sorry I don't know how how to do the tiny url thing..?)

Canon is a good brand for cameras. I haven't heard of anyone that disliked the one they have. I would beware of Best Buy though for electronics. I've heard that they are ridiculous with their return policy, even if the item doesn't work.
(just 1 bump). Any other suggestions for a canon (style #?) under 90.00? besides the one I posted abovee? Gotta get primed for midnight. Thanks!
I've always had Canon cameras. Love them. My current is a powershot SD1400 IS digital elph. Tiny enough to fit in my shirt pocket. powerful enough to capture great HD video and pics. The auto setting is good enough that I seldom need to futz with anything. I can't remember ever getting an out-of-focus result using the auto setting. But there are plenty of options if you like to play around.
thanks Scallion. this is my very first digital camera (i know, i know...i'm a dinosaur..), but which memory card do I buy? (for the red elph 110 that I posted above). I'm not really a big volume photographer.
If you click the accessories tab at that link there are a few options. The important things to look for are the class, the speed and the size (memory cards are just like men, I guess)
As for size...An 8g card will take about 2000 pics at top quality. But keep in mind that this camera takes HD video which takes up much more space than pics. I actually carry two memory cards so that if one fills up while I'm out I can just switch to the other. Same with the battery. Last thing you want is to be out getting a great shot and the battery dies. Keep a spare in the camera case.
As for class, since the elph takes HD video, you should go with a class 6 or higher.
You could go with one or two of the 16gb for $9.99 on the accessories tab and be set for a weeks vacation or whatever you do.
If you don't mind my asking, Scallion, did you pay more like 79.00 for the canon2300, or more near the 129.00 which the canon elph 110 is right now? It's all so confusing. Does price point really matter in my case? I just want EASY and decent pix. Thanks again for all your help.
If you are just starting out with a digital camera, the Elph is a great way to start.
I used one on my thru-hike this summer, and I was pretty happy with the image quality. A lot of people commented on how great they thought the image quality was compared to other brands they were carrying. One thing I can never seem to do well with it is use the macro settings. I think that might be user error more than anything else. Also, I occasionally had trouble with the protective shutter not closing fully, but the accumulated dust and dirt of the trip had more to do with that than the camera's inner construction. A few light taps on the palm of my hand got it to close the rest of the way every time I ran into that issue.
I am hoping to find a good quality camera in the next few years that has built in GPS so I can easily track where I take all my pictures too.
Good luck!
I paid about $199 about two years ago, if I remember correctly. I think it's a good price for a good digital.
I bought the CANON POWERSHOT ELPH 110 on AMAZON for $129.00 free shipping.. By 12:20 am, all of BestBuy models were sold out. And the really disgusting thing that occured on B&H photo, is that those bastards RAISED their prices for this model (and probably others) by $100.00 at the stroke of midnite! From 129.00 to 229.00. Greed and shady website deals abound. Disgraceful. I actually wasn't going to buy, if what I wanted wasn't available, cause I called the BESTBUY C/S on the phone to perhaps get a back order, but they tried to do the old BAIT AND SWITCH bull****. No thanks.
Anyway, hope you all got a nice present for yourselves! Enjoy!
Great, Tiny!
I scored a Playstation3 bundled with 4 games for a steal at $199. (free two day shipping) in an Amazon lightning deal. Regular price for the console alone is about $299 and games are usually about $50 each. Should be on my porch when I get home today!
