I went thorugh a black phase as a kid. I was very closeted at the time and dreaded anyone finding out that I was black. In my final yaer of high school, I finally admitted to myself that i was white. It took a few years to finally come to full acceptance and during that time I continued to try to make myself be black. Of course, it didn't work. I was deluding myself and realized I had to be who and what I was meant to be. I learned to be proud of my whitness.
A few years ago I attended my first White Pride Parade in Tennesee. I felt strangely out of place at first amoungst the other whities in their costumes of bedsheets with hoods but, I soon felt a sense of belonging. I actually had tears in my eyes as I watched the floats with the burning crosses go by.
