Read recently a few bits of trivia re Blazing Saddles
James Earl Jones was considered for the Cleavon Little part. In addition, Gig Young was to play the Wilder role because he really had a drinking problem. It became evident he could not do it as he came to the set the first day bombed and was upchucking. Wilder replaced him immediately. Another bit of trivia was Frankie Laine was never told it was a comedy. He thought the title song was for a real western.
The suits @ WB did not want Wilder attached to it in any way. Brooks rightly says it could not be made today due to political correctness and sadly he is right. The movie could never be made today. The suits also told Brooks to take the sound out of the farting scene and get rid of the 4 letter & F words. He naturally ignored them .
On You Tube you can find a TV pilot based on the movie which was never picked up entitled Black Bart.
The Blu Ray is coming out momentarily. No idea what the special features are.
