The times they are a-changing.
... I do love my Redbox machines, though.

Posted: 1/12/14 at 2:43pmAre they really changing, though? You say you love your red box (and the numbers show you're FAR from alone) but doesn't that mean people still want to rent?

Yes, it's changing.
From big brick-and-mortar stores full of employees and 75 copies of one movie to auto-mat services and Internet streaming and mailing services.
People will always rent entertainment. It's how they rent it that's always changing.

Posted: 1/12/14 at 4:10pmNo, I get that. But what I was saying is that people are still willing to drive somewhere to rent a movie and drive to bring it back. A lot of people, in fact.

I do it, so yes.
I don't like subscribing to a service, because I don't rent often enough to justify it. And I don't like the quality of streaming (still). So I rent!
And there are Redbox kiosks everywhere. I can reserve online and pick 'em up at my convenience. I have one that's 2 blocks from me and three more within 2 miles.

"And I don't like the quality of streaming (still). "
The quality of streaming on the provider's end is certainly fine. It just all depends on what you're using to stream that provider's content.

Posted: 1/12/14 at 6:16pmI've never seen streaming on anybody's TV that was good enough for me.

Posted: 1/12/14 at 6:18pmI agree. I stream because it's really one of the only available options now, but I'll still buy a blu ray of a film I like instead of streaming it on Netflix.

Posted: 1/12/14 at 6:59pmMaybe we have different standards or maybe it's the time and money one has to invest in their wireless system like we did, but the picture/sound quality on the Samsung Smart TV we use for streaming Netflix is nearly perfect.
