Body Waxing

This might seem like a completely weird question, but I have no one else to ask. I am considering getting my body waxed-good idea? I really hate body hair and want it off. How much does thsi cost? How long does it take to grow back? What do I do in between waxings?

lol can't help ya there, but I agree. I think body hair is so gross. Women have it easier; but on men I find it gross...not manly. Robin Williams totally skeeves me.

Some guy on the Sharon Osbourne show had is butt and back waxed last week. Can you imagine removing people's body hair for a living? :[

Who hath taught you to hate your body hair?

Seriously, before you just jump on the hair removal bandwagon, ask yourself how it is you have come to "hate bodyhair." Are you just buying into the billion dollar a year industry that tells Americans that they have to pluck, tweeze, wax, and cosmeticize themselves before they are "hot." Truly a "hottie" knows better, no?

I think some people look ok, or even better with hair-but I am not one of those people.

I hate when I see a woman with a moustache. I'm always so tempted to go right up to them and tell them to go get it waxed.

The problem for men is that the body hair accumulates for so long before deciding to remove it. Women start at a much earlier age, so it's not as painful wen they have it removed.

So, you're saying what exactly? That somebody got the message through to you that your body hair "does not look good?" I know that you did not just arrive at that conclusion yourself.

Also, if a woman does not want to have her lip waxed, should she be judged?

"Also, if a woman does not want to have her lip waxed, should she be judged?"

re: re: re: re: re: re: Body Waxing yes. In our society it is unacceptable for women to have facial hair

Would you be judged if you didn't groom yourself? Perhaps we shouldn't judge people who don't wear deodorant or brush their teeth either.

Okay...here we go. I am unfortunately one of those lovely italian women....so I know about waxing. I wax my arms sometimes. It's not as painful as it seems...although I have only waxed my arms and nothing else. Use nads...highly recommended. It says not to heat...but i find that if i heat for 5 secs it works lovely! Do what you want...if it makes you happy...do it.

I generally agree. But it never hurts to ask ourselves why something makes us happy. Is it because we are told we are supposed to be a certain way or buy a certain product or do a certain thing (causing that kind of tension between the you you are and the you you would be if you only purchased the right products is the very engine of our consumer culture) to be part of the in crowd? What's real and what is commercially induced?

I know a few people who were not born with penises and who LOVE their facial hair. That do not seem to feel the impact of being unacceptable in this culture, as you suggest, TB.

namo: HE wants to wax his body hair. if you're trying to put the point across that people shouldn't just do what other people tell them to, then it's really ironic because what you're trying to do is to convince him to do what you're saying. now i'm not saying that what you're saying is a bad thing(i agree that alot of trends and ad's telling you to buy and do trends are really stupid) but shouldn't you give him a chance to do what he wants?

Don't you watch QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY? They've featured hair removal on several fellows. I'd never have it sone, but it worked for these straight fellas.

What happens when you decide to stop waxing? Does all the hair come back with a vengance? Good questions to consider.

My analogy would be hair coloring... having reached the age where it was necessary to "wash it away" or live my life with gray hair (and not an attractive shade of gray, at that...), I've commited to dropping $70 every six weeks or so, to able to look in the mirror and see myself with my "normal" hair color. I've checked out a couple of waxing sites online and it looks like total body waxing involves taking a similar financial hit.

The psychological implications of why we choose to do these things can be hashed over ad nauseum. I personally don't see a problem with Hottie wanting a smooth skinned image or me wanting to see auburn instead of gray. One could take my choice to mean that I have issues about aging (I'm 51...not a secret)...but I think its more simple than that..I just like the way it looks better and can afford to indulge myself just because it makes me happy.

bwguyhottie...Broaeway has plenty of room for hot, hairy-chested men: Hugh Jackman,Stanley Tucci, Jason Patric, Antonio Banderas, Brad Oscar, Trekkie Monster. You don't NEED to be smooth to be desirable.

We folks...speaking as a major bear here, who's entire body is almost covered with body hair. I'd like to say the following regarding body hair on men:

1.) Keeping it is not a question of personal hygiene, like refusing to use deodorant.

2.) If you want to get rid of it, fine by me.

3.) Speaking as a Gay man, I can tell you from listening to the grapevine and looking in the media focused towards Gays, that body hair is starting to make a comeback.

4.) When that happens, I will be extremely "in fashion" as opposed to all those poor souls who spent thousands of dollars on waxing, laser hair removal....so that they can look like plucked chickens.

5.) If you don't like looking at it...then stop staring.

Very Hairy and Very Happy,

Michael

I love Chicago. Where the men are men and when I visit I am very busy.

Of course you know, WCA, that there used to be a Bear Magazine and now there is a 100% Beef magazine that might be right up your alley.

Typically wise words from Namo + MasterLcZ.

Think hard before you buy into it bwguyhottie. I understand the urge. In my early 20's I almost fell prey to the trimming trend and offed the gasp-inducing pelt on my chest. At 29 I scoff at the idea (and quite honestly roll my eyes at guys that do), so the pelt remains, I have fully embraced my swarthiness and lots of 'hottie' guys AND gals dig it. I consider my fur a blessing, not a curse.

Theaterbaby:
'Would you be judged if you didn't groom yourself? Perhaps we shouldn't judge people who don't wear deodorant or brush their teeth either.'

Assuming you are being facetious, this is a ridiculous comparison. Why should body waxing be compared to personal hygiene? It is STRICTLY a cosmetic procedure. What is up with people thinking body hair is worthy of hate and deeming it unclean?
These truly are dark times.

Now THAT is H-O-T.

My analysis of the hair removal for men trend goes like this. Gay men decided in the early '80s that smooth meant boyish and boy meant clean and clean meant AIDS-free! Because in the '70s, the sex was copious and so was body hair and manliness was appreciated. And in the early-'80s AIDS panic, people had to distance themselves from the dirty real men of the late-'70s. Purely understandable from a psychological point of view, if regrettable and not particularly supportable from an epidemiological point of view.

Like every other dumb trend the queens start, 10-15 years later, straight men started to do it too.

Did I ever think I would see the day that NBA players would lift up their arms to reveal pits as shaved smooth as a Victoria's Secret model?

No, I did not.
