I recently went to amazon to order some older, out of print DVDs - mostly Disney videos that are "back in the vault," as well as PETER PAN with Mary Martin.
However, two days in a row, I have received bootlegs.
The 101 Dalmations DVD was cleverly packaged - even had stickers on it, but is a bootleg.
The PETER PAN DVD is atrocious. I didn't watch it, but it's clearly home made.
I am extremely frustrated and irritated by this.
The sellers seem to want to cooperate (both claim they "didn't know"), but I don't want to go through the hassle of mailing them back just to get the money. It's not about the money, it's the principle of the thing. To pay over $50 for PETER PAN just to receive a bootleg copy is insulting. What should I do about this? Should I just play nice, or should I report them to amazon?
I guess I could always sue for emotional damage.

I did this more as for a warning for you guys - be careful when buying "out of print" items - people are jerks.

Posted: 3/1/06 at 5:11pmI'd go much farther than that-- Contact the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) at 1-800-NO COPYS (1 800 662 6797) and report it. Amazon should cooperate with any investigation and get these bootleggers shut down. The punishments are severe-- as well they should be. If your tip leads to shutting down a major operation you might be in line for a reward-- but putting those bums out of business owuld be reward enough for me.

I almost bought "The Last Days of Disco" on DVD, which is out of print. It was also really pricey.
I'll stay away. Thank you.

Posted: 3/1/06 at 8:55pmI would definetly contact the buyer and ask for a full refund. They should have at least told in the description of the item that it was a bootleg. (Well, they shouldn't be selling bootlegs in the first place.) And if they refuse, definetly report them.
