Bowie releases new single

Basically silent for ten years, most people thought the *original* rock and roll chameleon had retired for good. Then today, his birthday, he quietly releases a new single, to be followed by a new album in March.

This really is one way an artist can do it. Just do what you want, invest yourself in it, and put it out there. No countdowns, no "leaked tracks", no floating statue down the Thames, no previews, no sneaks, no teases, no taunts. Just. Release. It.

Good for Bowie, I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

I don't know if he will tour. I saw one of the last shows on his Reality tour, before he cancelled after his heart issues. The show was so much better than I had any right to hope it would be. And I had seen him on the Heroes tour (one of the shows that ended up on the "Stage" live album) and Serious Moonlight. "Reality" was so great, if you've never heard Gail Ann Dorsey do the "Under Pressure" duet with Bowie, seek it out. It's fantastic.

I would definitely go to any show he put on. I'm glad he's back.
