Boy George Sentenced To 15 Months In Prison

"LONDON — Singer Boy George was sentenced to 15 months in jail on Friday after being convicted of falsely imprisoning a male escort by handcuffing him to a wall in a London apartment.

British Judge David Radford said the 47-year-old former Culture Club frontman, whose real name is George O'Dowd, was guilty of "gratuitous violence."

O'Dowd's lawyer said his client and the escort had both behaved like "drug-crazed idiots" and that O'Dowd's substance abuse problems were a contributing factor."

15 months for this sort of crime seems severe. Didn't the "escort' sell his story to a newspaper? Surely that would be enough for the case to be dismissed?

But isn't his past criminal record in the U.S.? This would have no bearing on the British Court case.

Oh, I'm sure he's been in plenty of trouble in the UK. I know for sure there was big trouble with a friend of mine and him.

My heart goes out to the poor rent boy George imprisoned by applying handcuffs and binding his hands.

How was he to know this wan't a game? I suppose the answer is when he didn't get paid!!

15 months is some serious time. I'm surprised it isn't the rentboy who is going to prison for any number of crimes.

This brings to mind the somewhat recent Weekend Update sketch with Fred Armisen as Boy George. His interplay with Seth Meyers was absolutely hilarious.
