The only "truth" you've written, SeanMartin, is an opinion.
And a cold-hearted, clueless one at that.
No, it's not a complete shock, but it is still a tragic loss.
"Will it change the fact that what I wrote is true? Not one whit. "
What makes it true?
Any educated person knows there are several factors that contribute to drug abuse. You know..things besides being a "pathetic little looser" under a lot of pressure.
You know, Sean, a little research on addiction could really open your mind to the possibility that he didn't willfully throw it all away.
I love how the "It so often ends this way for young Hollywood".
sentiments get thrown around any time something like this happens.
This happens EVERY FREAKING DAY in ALL WALKS OF LIFE. It is just not covered by TMZ. And statistically, I really wonder if Hollywood really has a higher rate of ODs than the rest of the world. (assuming he DID OD. It has not been reported yet. He might have just choked on a ham sandwich, you know.)
Unbelievable. 25? My god.
To clarify, I know that overdosing happens in everyday real-life too and not just to child actors and figure skaters. They are the ones who get the publicity for it and it somehow always seems more frustrating when you look at someone who had money and success and still suffered through addiction.
>> Mr. Renfro was saavy enough to get into the picture business, and YOU are posting on a board.
LOL -- and I could easily say the same about all of you, folks. Yeah, I post on a fanboy board. Yes, I offered up an opinion about someone I didnt know who was stupid enough to do the drug route when he clearly knew better... even at 25.
How many people do we have to see like this before the message gets through, gang> How many Britney breakdowns and Lohan rehabs and drug-related suicides do we have to freaking see before people get a clue about all this?
He knew better. He wasnt stupid. He freaking knew better. And he made the choice. Deal with it.
You want to hold him up as some martyr to the pressures of Hollywood and me as some cold-hearted fool who doesnt understand? Be my guest. As I said before, if you want to make his life have any kind of meaning, then dont make the same d*mn mistake he did.
And a year from now, I'm gonna post "Anyone remember this guy?" It'l be real interesting to see what the heartfelt responses will be. You might want to write them in advance so you dont forget.
You see, that is a great illustration of the power of addiction. Even the people with everything can't just stop no matter how much money or influence they have. Sure, having the money might make it easier for them to get drugs, but that is about it.
"...who was stupid enough to do the drug route..."
Do you honestly believe ANY human being wakes up one morning and says, "Hey! I think I'll be a drug addict! Yeah, that's what I want to do today. I choose THAT."
You sound so morally superior to the rest of us poor humans down here on earth. You must be the only person who has NEVER done something against your own better judgment. Ever.
Because only someone in that position could have such a cut-and-dry opinion of Brad or people like him.
Congratulations on having no faults, no inner demons, no lapses in judgment, no lack of guidance or support growing up, no personal vices to help you cope, and no stumbles along the way in life.
It must be wonderful.
EDIT: By the way I'm not excusing his behavior. But I'm not excusing yours either.
"You sound so morally superior to the rest of us poor humans down here on earth."
You think? I think he just sounds uninformed.
Preach it, B12B!
What a sad, sad shame. He was a very talented actor. I always thought he would find a breakout role in an indie and really become a major star in his 30s.
R.I.P.
What I've read is that Brad Renfro came to LA at a young age with no real guidance from adults and from a possibly abusive background. Hollywood is rough enough on the fully grown. I think he does not deserve the harsh judgment.
now, now, folks, the kinda bitterness sean's exhibiting obviously comes from having lost someone close to drugs. rather than attacking sean, y'all should be trying to help him come to terms with the pain that he's chosen to mask with anger.
"now, now, folks, the kinda bitterness sean's exhibiting obviously comes from having lost someone close to drugs"
That was actually my first thought. That, or he's a complete hermit that has no social contact with ANYONE save through the internet.
Who is he? Adam Ant?

Let's stop arguing and get back to the REAL tragedy here: now, Brad will never be able to give it all up for me and settle down in the suburbs. I was convinced I was the one he'd be able to kick it for.
He was something.
A lot of bad things that happen to people are "their own damn fault". Might be due to social pressure, poor parenting, carelessness in the heat of passion, or letting a couple of extra years slip by between mammograms. Maybe it's eating meat full of cholesterol, driving without a seatbelt because it's just a short ride, or not finishing the entire prescription of antibiotics. You want to go global? How much do each of us really do to save the demise of the earth, even though we can see it happening before our very eyes.
Call me a bleeding heart (cuz it's like shooting a duck in a barrel), but we all have our weaknesses. And as we've seen over and over again, those to whom fame and fortune come early, have an especially touch row to hoe.
Brad Renfro's death is sad. What is likely to be a tragic ending to the Britney saga (sooner rather than later is my guess) is going to be sad, too. Yes, they "knew better", but weren't armed with the support, strength of character, or whatever it is that allows some people to "make it back out".

Is sorrow easier to bear when it's "your own damn fault"?
Beware of the soap-box you speak from. The fall can be painful.
Joe, the only things taht comes to mind when I see that picture now is:
"I think that I dropped my stash. Help me look"
