Sure, there are tales aplenty if you have a yen for different takes on Buffy, X-Men, Lord of the Rings, Xenia, Smallville, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Dawson's Creek.

But where's the slash fiction for Broadway buffs? Are we THAT offbeat?

I mean, I know one site that features stories about Babe Ruth and Phil Rizzuto! (Not together, mind you.) But most of the stories are about silly little boy bands, Hanson (remember THEM?), various British football stars with a particular emphasis on David Beckham and the cast of "The Young And The Restless" and other soaps. Not very inspiring or intersting, if you ask me. Ok, well... excepting David Beckham.

I should also mention a surprising lack of Wesley Clark/Howard Dean fan stories.

Has the well of creativity just DRIED UP with this new generation of slash writers?!

Oh, papa, darling.

I am so glad I can be the one to explain it to you.

Slash fiction are fantasy stories featuring well known personalities and/or fictional characters. They usually feature (but are not limited to) encounters of an erotic nature. They can be herero- or homosexual in nature (While the N'Sync stories are almost always read by gay men, lots of straight teenage boys LOVE the stories invovling Xenia, for instance). Quite often they are poorly crafted and plotted (Stories like "Hollywood Poolside Orgy" with a laundry-list of names get tired VERY quickly, as does the "star gives the devoted fan a night to remember" genre) but some are surprisingly amusing and well done. And some - like one I saw featuring - no joke - Tony the Tiger of Kelloggs Frosted Flakes fame - are just plain SILLY.

There are TONS of 'Slash Ficton' sites on the Web. Just do a google search.

Not one story I have come across features any Broadway personaities (excepting Hugh in X-MEN, but that doesn't quite count).

Who do you propose writing about? re: re: re: broadway 'slash fiction'

(and while slash fiction is horrifying, well...combinations of people are horrifying themselves, I actually have a few ideas on who would make a good story!)

I thought Michael Riedel wrote slash fiction.

That's great to hear, Princess! And I'm not that surprised, actually. RENT is a very 'young' phenomenon (as is 'Slash' fiction) so it would fit that there would be fiction about it.

Very GOOD, papa! Your story idea is EXACTLY the spirit! re: broadway 'slash fiction'

There is also a lot of Les Miserables slash out there. Particularly Enjolras/Grantaire and Joly/Bossuet. Don't know if that's exactly what you're looking for, but I can tell you that it's very popular.

Wow someone who knows about "Slash" fiction besides me! I take you also know about fanzines, MasterLcZ?

I wrote couple of stories (not slash--but I know so of those who are pretty good at it) and some poems for them a long time ago. My last story was a DOTV story last year about this time.

I even know of a couple cons that are held where the writers meet. They are a LOT of fun, I'll tell you that.

I don't know about Fanzines, Dof! Are they collected stories on one particular theme?

And how interesting to hear about all these other 'slash' stories - Les Miz, DOTV, RENT, etc. None of the sites I've seen features them.

And as a note to the posters that will remain nameless complaing that I'm "encouraging smut" - some of the best fan fiction ISN'T X-rated (of course a lot is...but that's another story). It's can actually be romantic and rather beguiling. And it's a challenge to write steamy instead of outright sexy (Let's face it...ANYONE can 'talk dirty').

Personally, I think WICKED is ripe for fan fiction. As is AVENUE Q.

awwwm master, smut's so much more fun to write!! i encourage everyone to write as much smut as possible. you may send it to me via private message. however, i must ask that you refrain from including pairings of a certain tabloid columnist with animals. that's so 2003.

I agree that there are many, many fan writers out there that could give the best selling novelists a run for their money.

I LOVE fan fiction. Even the not so good Mary Sue (you do know what that means?) stuff.

BTW, Fanzines are just that. Way before the net came along, they were the only way the fans had to share their stories. I remember the old Star Trek zines (as they were/are sometimes called) and reading my first "slash" story--the classic Kirk/Spock.

What I find very surprising is that most "Slash" male/male is written by women. Forgive me but I never really understood that.

I published my very own fanzine from 1979-81.

And I've recently read some very tumescent slash fiction.

"Personally, I think WICKED is ripe for fan fiction"

Amen to that!! LOL when I was watching the Thanksgiving parade with my family, and Kristin and Idina were up there singing, when Idina sang "we're just two friends..." my sister was like, "ooh, LESBIANS!" it was kind of amusing that she picked up on a "lesbian sub-plot" so quickly! I think the begining lyrics to What Is This Feeling? also support a slash fic =)

Bless you, Princess! That site is a real eye-opener indeed.
TONS of RENTfic, A few spicy CHICAGO stories (in one, Roxie returns to Amos), and (only) one PRODUCERS story with Max & Leo that is one of the most achingly sweet stories I've ever read.
And the HAIRSPRAY 2 - the Next Generation fanfic (with Tracy & Link's kids, Uncle Seaweed & Aunt Penny & Amber's daughters Ashleigh and Annelise - is nothing short of brilliant. (I've included a link to this G-rated story). Great stuff!

What I'm puzzed over are the stories about CATS. Well, if Tony the Tiger can have one...

Big Buffy and Angel slash person here.
But in the world of Broadway...never thought about it too much. With the exception of Cliff/Ernst in Cabaret. At least when Rick Holmes and Peter Benson were playing them...he had more heat with Benson than he did with most of his Sallys.
Some of my friends have been mentioning Frank/Charley heat in Merrily We Roll Along. I totally agree.
