ooo an audience.. Even better!!
I used to love being on stage until an episode in the early 90's and have since developed pretty bad stage fright. Though now that I'm on anxiety medication I might just give it a try... who knows?
Can I ask what happened that gave you stage fright?
Sure... during final dress of A Chorus Line - I was Paul - I blanked on my monologue. I was all alone on stage, the SM was distracted telling Cassie how great she'd been, and all I could see was the director's face in the audience, with a look ready to kill me. It felt like minutes, but I'm sure it was only seconds before the SM realized I had lost it and finally fed me the beginning of the monologue again. Which I finished fine. But ever since then, going on-stage has been terribly stressful. I only put up with the stress when I think it's worth it.
Funny, though, I only get it if I have lines. If I'm in the chorus, or dancing, no problem.
That's a tough one.. to be alone on stage and forget your monologue.. It's another story if there are others to help you out..
DD..I also played Paul in a production of A Chorus Line..a dream come true...but that damn monologue was a bitch !!! I always thought I would freeze, but I seemed to get it all out....not the same every night...but I got it out.
I tell you, it's so friggin' long! And the director was a real stickler for keeping it exactly the same.
Chorus Line was the one rare time I went back on stage for... earlier this year, to play Bobby. (38 year old latino guy playing a 28 year old WASP - go figure).
It think it's everyones fear that they are going to freeze or fall etc.. I'm usually like that in auditions.. thats where nerves get the better of me..
Well, I hate auditioning too. Since I've been in Seattle, I've been in 3 shows, and didn't audition for any of them. The ones I've auditioned for I didn't get.
My biggest issue is the fear of screwing up my audtion and not getting cast..
