Someone posted a while back about how they did a paper for an AP class about how Broadway Shows paralled American History. ie. Hair defined the 60's If I remember, the paper talked about how Broadway Shows reflected the society of the day and it went back to the early part of the century. I think it was on a thread on the student board. I don't have time to look but maybe you can or maybe that poster will reply here. Good luck!
Stage special effects. How does Elphaba fly in Wicked? How does the Beast change on stage? How does Passionella get created? How does Charity fall in a lake? How does the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fly? What was up with Tarzan? The Phantom in the boat (lots of good stories about it malfunctioning) You could show a clip of the effect and then explain how it is done.
I saw a speech years ago when I was coaching on "set design" which talked about the straight lines and curves and how those shaped the vision. There should be books on stage designs that you could have pictures from. You would go from concept art to construction to finished product. The original barricade in Les Miz alone is fascinating - along with the turntable.
