As Hargitay lost her mother at a young age and could have died herself, she will have a different (unique?) connection to the material. The list will be more for her and what she imagines her mother would have liked.
Just "new" musicals - because there have been some "new" revivals since 2020 such as The Music Man that must have recouped. On Edit - seems like The Music Man may not have recouped. Wow.
There is a proshot of the new(ish) musical Stiletto which was in London in Spring 2025 at the small Charing Cross Theatre. Just posted to YouTube.
I haven't watched and cannot vouch for its qualities. Theatreboard was mixed - liked the music, but not so much the book (which seems like so many musicals!) The "official" description from Charing Cross Theatre is:
"Stiletto, the new musical with Music and Lyrics by three-time Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Matthew Wilder (Disney’s Mulan) with the Book by double Olivier Award nominee Tim Luscombe (Noël Coward’s Easy Virtue, Terrence Rattigan’s The Browning Version and Harlequinade) has been nominated for a staggering 11 awards at the 2025/2026 Fringe Theatre Awards including Best New Musical and Best Production.
Set in 18th-century Italy, Stiletto follows Marco, a young castrato singer navigating the opulent yet perilous world of Venetian opera. His life changes when he meets Gioia; confident, strong willed...and supremely talented. But despite her musical gifts, as a black woman in a racist and misogynist society, there’s no chance for her to fulfil her dreams.
Marco recognises her talent and, sensing that they are both outsiders as well as sharing a love for music, they fall in love. When a murder shatters their world, Marco must confront his past to save her. A sweeping tale of ambition, love, sacrifice, and resilience, Stiletto brings an opulent, rarely explored slice of musical history to the stage."
A "big revival" he was assistant choreographer on - that had an out of town press performance - designs were in place - and minutes before the final callback for dance ensemble, the show was cancelled.
should have read comments before posting - it was 2008 Brigadoon to be directed by Rob Ashford
Does The Hemingway Play count as a play with multiple actors playing the same person - since the conceit of the play has the different Hemingways interact with each other?
I have seen neither. I will not see either. But, I forget who was complaining that the Board never discusses competition among male actors - this thread is for you!
But based on Board comments, it sounds like this could be a very tight competition.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Oct 20 – Nov 7, 2026 (not seeing other cities having this on the subscription but website lists lots of places)
THE BOOK OF MORMON, Jan 5 – 17, 2027 (not seeing other cities having this on the subscription - official website has gap between 1/3 and 6/1 so this fits in that gap)
Bumping for those who want to discuss the show since the other thread was apparently deleted. And this should have been the thread to post on, regardless.
There is at least one video recording of the "concert". Due to the delay, it starts about 28 minutes in - then cuts out in Dear Bill about 47 minutes in and returns at about 50 minutes in.
