11.98 million.

Viewers for American Idol 5 debut episode:
35.5 million

You mean more people will sit on their living room couch to see something that's free than travel to see something they have to pay for? Color me shocked.

It's not like running off to NYC to see shows is something everyone with a television set is capable of doing.

television is also unlimited in audience. There are only so many seats on broadway.

I think considering all factors those numbers are VERY good for Broadway.

Plus there's the tidbit I learned from watching Broadway: The American Musical--

Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Miss Saigon have grossed more money worldwide than Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, and Titanic combined.

Cameron Macintosh--the antichrist? Perhaps. But he sure as hell knows how to market a show.
